    Hi ladies,

I got my BFP as a Christmas Eve present this year :). I've been very crampy through last night and today. I'm just a little nervous because I haven't actually missed my period yet (I'm 13DPO, period is due in 2 days). The test was positive again today... I think I'm going to end up testing every day until I get the results of an HCG blood test! I have to wait until Tuesday to schedule an appointment with my doctor since everything is closed tomorrow.

How did you end up keeping yourself sane until the HCG tests came back normal? Did you find that getting an early BFP led to a normal, viable pregnancy? I have read about the miscarriages/chemical pregnancies on here lately, and I feel so sad for them and so scared for me at the same time!

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and yes I have had cramps off and on throughout.  They are very different from period cramps though.  If you are familiar with ovulation cramps, located towards one side and kind of twinges of pain.  That is what mine have been like.  Not the bloated, all over pain from a period.   I know everyone is different so don't take my word for it.

My cramps feel a lot like period cramps at a little over 5 weeks. I've been testing since 9 DPO and that was a couple weeks ago. If you're healthy, most practices won't do a HCG blood test or ultrasound until 8-10 weeks. My first prenatal isn't until 8 weeks, hence the testing. I'll test until we see a heartbeat and relax a bit about it.

I had cramps like that that would come and go for a while after BFP....I'd especially get them at night when I woke up to pee.....they eventually went away (maybe 2 weeks?), and all is good for me here at 20 weeks now.  Godo luck!

PS. I was so sure that something was wrong for a long time because I thought those cramps must be bad, but they weren't.  Even at my 8 week appointment still had question marks (too early for doplar to get the heartbeat).  Heard the heartbeat at 12 weeks and felt much better. Saw the baby on the ultrasound at 20 weeks and feeling more sure.

@cvbee: Mine also act up at night when I don't get enough to drink water wise since I'm asleep. I usually hydrate right away in the morning. I'm so hoping that we see a heartbeat at 8 weeks. The wait sucks!

    Congrats! What an amazing present:)

For the first few weeks I had intense mentrual like cramps. I wouldn't worry yourself and try not to stress about the testing. I stopped testing after the second day so I wouldn't obsess over the color/ darkening. I'm a little over ten weeks and I still have cramps every once in a while. Just try to relax and enjoy being pregnant!

I had a lot of cramping early on, but for me they felt somewhat different from menstrual cramps.  In the early part of your pregnancy your uterus is already starting to expand rapidly, so cramps are totally normal.  Congrats on your BFP!!

I had cramping until about 13weeks. No worries unless you see blood.

I had cramping too ... everything I read said that it was normal and my doc did too ... it kind of makes sense that you would have cramping if you think about everything that is going on in your body. I'm 22 weeks now and all is well =)

I'm 8 weeks today and still experience cramping on and off. Usually when I have to pee or am dehydrated. Once I figured that out they have been much less uncomfortable. Congrats!

Ladies, thank you all for your reponses. I haven't been able to get on the computer much in the last few days with the holidays and all. I feel much more reassured knowing that many ladies have experienced it as well. My first pre-natal appointment is January 5, so hopefully we'll get some more info on our little poppy seed! :)

I'm almost 8 weeks, and am still cramping on and off...like PP, usually when I have to pee or am getting dehydrated.

I'm still testing. The first week it was like 3-4 times a day, the second week was once a day, the third was every other day, and this week I've only tested once. I figure I have all these cheap dipsticks, I might as well use them. And it's reassuring to see how quick and dark the line shows. It's holding me over until my first appointment on Friday.

As for miscarrying...it might happen, and there's really nothing you can do to stop it. Just try to relax...stressing over what-ifs doesn't help you. (Of course, take this with a grain of salt, I was a hot stressed mess the first week or two.)

@Mrs Sarah McK: Testing never gets old to me. When you see the line pop up before the test line, it's reassuring. It gets me through the waiting for my appointment. At first, the line was in total disbelief. Now, it reassures me for the time being.

I'm 11w 4d and will say that I get crampy sometimes when I haven't had enough water to drink that day or when I haven't eaten in a while. 1 of these days I will get my eating habits down....even if it's in 6 months. LOL

the only way i knew i was pregnant is because i had constant cramps!

i am 21 weeks pregnant and still have cramps every day.

I might also add that i got a BFP before my period was due... in fact, i found out only 8 or 9 days past ovulation.

I had cramps that I thought were my period until I was 2 days late and I tested for a surprise BFP. They lasted another week or two until the nausea kicked in. Don't worry about it, and once you get your morning sickness you'll miss the cramps. I also got constipated and had gas pains around that time, which sometimes felt like period cramps too. Congrats on your little Christmas present!!

@MissDareDevil: I found out pretty early too. I had a feeling something was up when I was so convinced I wasn't pregnant. I did a late night test and got a faint BFP. It only got darker as time went on.

Phew! I feel so much better now that I see how many people experience the cramping. I think I'll feel a bit better once I make it through tomorrow (that's when AF is due) and know that this is becoming more real!

Thank you again for all the responses!! :)

@shimmerofheaven: My worst set of cramps thus far were last week Wednesday. It seems that right before I hit a week milestone I get crampy. They've been mild before, but that set was especially bad. I make sure to drink tons of water to relieve the pain.

I had cramps from the time I got my BFP (at 4 weeks) until I was 8 weeks along.  They were pretty intense and definitely felt like period cramps.  They would be there throughout the day, on and off, and generally not terrible, but once or twice per day, they would come in a severe wave of pain that would last for approximately 10 - 15 minutes and have my doubled over in pain.  I actually threw up from the pain on one occasion and the rest of the time it wreaked havoc on my bowels (sorry, TMI), which is what usually happens when I have period cramps.

The good news is that the baby is perfectly fine and there was nothing to worry about.  I found that if I didn't drink enough water, they would get worse, but as long as I drank four litres of water per day, yes FOUR litres, it was only the one severe episode every day.

At around 8 weeks, they started easing off and were completely gone by week 9.  I'm now 16 weeks and only experience mild twinges here and there.   I had never realised that cramps were normal during early pregnancy but as you can see, they are, and as long as there's no bleeding, there is absolutely nothing to worry about, although they do make things really uncomfortable for a while there.
