We used Mercurio Brothers too (going to pick up the finished invites tomorrow morning!) and live nearby, so I went to look at their samples in person. I don’t know what Crane’s Lettra in ecru is like, but Somerset Soft White struck me as very much an ecru paper—I remember thinking it seemed really poorly named! We went with Radiant White, which is a truer white-white. I thought the Somerset papers were much nicer than the Strathmore for the finished product, and well worth the small cost increase. The woman who coordinated our job also said the imprint on the Somerset comes out slightly deeper because of the paper’s makeup, so that’s what they recommend too.

Hope that helps!

Yep—I actually just Googled the Crane’s and assuming the colors aren’t coming across too strangely on my screen, I’d say the shades of the two are quite similar. The Soft White is a very warm ivory/ecru, definitely not to be confused for a true white.

I am in communication with them for my invites too.  Here’s a secret:  They have Lettra, and charge at the Somerset price.  Just ask.

I’ve never seen Somerset, but I set my Fiance to a nearby art store to look at it, and he preferred the Lettra 110lb.

BTW, I forgot to follow up on this, but we have since picked up and mailed our invites—Mercurio Brothers did a beautiful job on them, so I have no qualms about recommending them. The only thing I’d change is that we ended up with a much larger overrun than we’d expected—ordered 15 percent more to be on the safe side, but ended up with more like twice that! Probably would have been fine with overordering by only 5 percent. They did two-color letterpress on Somerset Radiant White with our own design, and we were extremely pleased, especially for the price—about half of what the other local shops could offer. (We had decided upfront to use local printers.)

I’m so glad to hear you loved them!  They should be finishing ours soon and shipping them out on Monday and I can not wait.  We got the one color on Lettra, and we’re going to cut our own apart.  I ordered quite a few extras, but that’d be really nice if we got even more.

PS, post a picture!
