DH is notorious for crappy gift giving, he knows it, but for some reason he just can't help himself. The sweet man tries so hard, but it is like when the pressure is on his brains slide out his ears. Later, when he has a chance to put some real thought into it, he comes up with some great stuff.
Last year for Valentines, he sent me an expensive floral arrangement. Um, somehow, someway, he completely forgot I hate flowers. I would totally rather have a new purse than flowers that will die, eh, that is just me. This year for Christmas, I got yet another back massager. Apparently the two that he got me the previous years were not enough, LOL.
Boy, I can't wait to see what he comes up with this year, LOL.
What was your worst/craziest gift?
@tksjewelry: My husband bought me a scarf and a bottle of wine one year. i was like really? so impersonal. thought the scarf is nice.
I personally love getting flowers but i prefer them to be potted so i can plant them and try and keep them alive. though i would take a purse over flowers too!
For Christmas this year I got a regift!
A good friend of mine had bought a crockpot for me as a wedding present, but it didn't work so we returned it for a gift card (space is tight and we agreed to purchase it later). Yep for Christmas he purchased it with the gift card and wrapped it up. It was pretty much my only gift.... He also bought me prunes (wtf) and dried pineapples....
Honestly I don't ever want another gift from him EVER. Just seeing gifts wrapped makes me all excited and I can't even describe how bummed I am after opening them. It's the worst feeling. I'd rather have nothing.
DH is terrible at presents. He always says it's not about the item and that he thinks it's terribly materialistic. We used to have so many fights over this:D Mind you, I have never asked him for an expensive gift but the kind of gifts he gives me... ends up in the drawer never to be seen again. Got a CZ necklace once and he knows I don't wear jewellery and that if I DID wear jewellery, it would be the real stuff (sounds snobby but that's just me and I already have some genuine stuff so really not interested in more when I don't wear them anyway).
Sometimes he gives me nothing (literally NO present 0_0 ) and sometimes, he takes me out to choose some make up or ..honestly, I don't even remember. Basically never had a cool present from him ever!
I tell myself that he does the dishes and lots of household chores which I hate and that he shows his love differently:P
My fiance tries SO hard, and I love him for it :) But he doesn't have the best track record. I would say the strangest one yet was one of those decoritve waterfall things that plugs in and goes on an end table. It was for my 24th birthday and I had no idea what to do with it. Still don't actually.
Mr. LK is smart and adheres to my wish list when it comes to buying me things. I provide plenty of visuals and web links. LOL And he knows that all jewelry purchases should be approved by my sister-in-law. She and I have the same taste, so she is an excellent resource for him when he is shopping. :)
@totheislnds: A purse would be SWEET! I would love it even better as a gift card and two hours by myself to shop freely and pick one out. Last year it worked for me, I got a puppy as a guilt gift, Bahaha
@PinkMagnolia: That was exactly what I thought about the THIRD back massager!
@redband: I think he will learn the "gift giving" thing, took my brother FOREVER, but finally one day it dawned on him like an epiphany to get his wife cool stuff. He found out what the rewards were
@Bostongrl25: I know, DH really does try and I feel so bad for him because the second I open it, he knows how bad it is. At least I know he puts thought into it, eh, fingers crossed that he gets it someday and I don't end up with a whole closet of back massagers, LOL.
One year I got a pink hammer and a homemade snuggie. I already had a snuggie I really liked, so I'm not sure why he had to make his own...
My house is under construction... so I had to find somewhere where you can get an idea of how BIG this rose is! The thing is: I LOVE IT!
Ugh, be happy you get anything. Mister doesn't even do that. I have to figure out what I want, order it, pay for it, and it never gets wrapped. And because our budget is tight I feel obligated to ask if its alright if I buy anything. Ugh.
@lovekiss: My SIL is awesome and would be great with that, the stupid Army decided that we lived to close and moved them all the way across the country :( I can't wait till they move back.
@PinkMagnolia: I want a picture of that! He made it himself!?
@happyface: WTF!? Holy Criminatlies that is HUGE! (let me wipe the tears from my eyes)
@Caizn: Fingers crossed for you that it changes, sorry, that is sucky.
@owlandpebble: You just reminded me, one year from an ex on my bday, I got an electric razor, a gym membership, and a wood burning set. I just looked at him and said "Seriously!? Do you really thing that I am out of shape, hairy, and bored?" the horror on his face was PRICELESS! His wife gets great gifts now because of me, LOL, she still thanks me.
LOL I posted here that my DH never gives me anything, he's totally unromantic etc.etc.etc. Well, he just came home from work with 2 dozen roses!
That's quite an achievement:D
I feel like my husband has done the subpar gift thing before, but I'm honestly wracking my brain to try to think of examples. He's pretty good at gifts, or at least giving things he knows I'd like, even if they don't always "wow" me.
One year for Christmas, he got me (among other things) a board game, "Clue," because I always say how much I like that game. Well, yeah, I do like it. It's a bit of a strange Christmas present though. And the worst part is that because it requires 3 or more players, I don't think we've ever once even played it!
@Gemstone: Oh, I will come over, I love Clue. It is one I am really good at!
@oracle: Did our guys shop together a CVS pharmacy?
@tksjewelry: Haha yes, please come over and play Clue with us! It would alleviate my guilt so much! :)
@tksjewelry: LOL - let's not get started about the Christmas he HAD to have Snuggie and we spent an entire evening going to every CVS in a 15 mile radius -haha
@KT808: OMG - some of my college friends and I bought that for our crazy-cat-lady friend.... I'm seriously cracking up you have it too!
I have to say last year's valentines was the BEST ever for me :3
my FH (now DH) surprised me by sneaking into my apartment and putting a unique flower arrangement next to my bed. I had a HORRIBLE day at school and came home to roses of every size shape and color with handwritten tags attached to each of them. He even used black ribbon and his wax seal to complete the tags ... each color represented something he liked about me or something he loved about our relationship. It took me about ten minutes to read each note and I pressed the roses/note attached and keep it to this day. I plan on framing the flowers eventually and displaying them in our house.
we always get each other at least 1 gag gift for xmas..this year my stocking was full of medicines and q tips- funny but ok ive been sick a lot the last year and i have had him drop meds off to my job more then once....
however one of my "big" gifts he proclaimed.... when i opened it was a GRABBER!!!!!! Yes ladies one of these things :
I am petite, just under 5 feet, and the smallest person in the house and im always asking for someone to hand me stuff down- and when we moved in together i wouldnt let him put anything on the top shelves! Needless to say he got his laugh, but he was lucky that he had a "small gift" under the tree as well in the form of jewelry from pandora :)
One time he got me a stuffed gorilla. Not a teddy bear, not a cute monkey, a big hairy chocolate GORILLA with a mean look on it's face.
I was not pleased. Talking about that was all CVS had.
@shalynnmarie: LOL, totally something DH would buy and think it was practical at the time. I am only 5'1" so I know the pain, that is why when we build our house there will be no upper cabinets, only a butlers pantry. I am not dragging a step stool all over the house for the rest of my life.
@Aubergold: LOL, mean gorilla. Just glad to know that my DH isn't the lone CVS last minute WTF do I do now buyers.
our very first valentine's day together my now DH got me an 8-10 person tent. we had only been together for two months!
I once received a Mr. T bobble-head and a KISS action figure. I think it was the Starchild....
My friend said that her boyfriend got her a leftover stuffed x-mas bear one year for valentine's day. She asked him about it and he denied it was in the clearance section, then she squeezed the hand it started playing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". I think it's a funny story.
@KT808: Bahahaha I think you win LOL I'm sorry but the cat lady thing is hilarious
I HATE snuggies I just hate them so my DH bought me a Santa snuggie for Christmas last year WTF am I going to do with that?
Either my Husband and I haven't been together long enough or I'm just one of the select few lucky ones that never received a bad gift from her husband. We have only been married 3 months and together for almost 2 years. I never really got a gift from him that I didn't like. There was one time where I was quite surprised which happened earlier in our relationship. He once painted a picture of The Little Mermaid for me (since he knew that was my favorite movie when I was 5). I thought it was a very sweet gesture even though I'm not really into The Little Mermaid nearly as much as I used to be.
My husband gave me a bluetooth headset for a wedding gift. Really? I gave you a book of half-naked pictures of me and you got me a bluetooth? He tries...
I'm sorry I still have to tell him what I want for any holiday or b-day. My surprise gift on christmas was a $5 movie from walmart that I once told I wanted to see. And on my b-day I did not ask for anything since planning a wedding is alot of $$$ I got two thermals and wedding mags oh a gift card to joann fabrics. A little bumped and and embarrassed since my sister and her bf were there and she gets jewerly 8[
A cake pan, I hate cake and it was a xmas/bday gift. I told him valentines is gonna be good to me this year.
Men, they try.
