Omg! This is one of those days where I absolutely don’t regret having quit drinking entirely a couple of years ago. I work at a mid-size law firm and yesterday afternoon/night everyone (staff and the lawyers) was invited to a local pub to celebrate Oktoberfest. I did not attend because, like I said, I quit drinking and no longer socialize in that manner anymore. I have no business being in a bar given my history and so I never go to one anymore. But holy crap…the stories coming out this morning are crazy!! One girl who works in the mail room got so wasted that she projectile vomited all over a table full of lawyers we work with!!!!! She refused to get up from the table afterwards and literally had to be forcefully dragged out of the bar and thrown into a cab by one of the another assistants. Another was so gooned that she started sitting on the lap of MARRIED male lawyers and randomly grinding her ass up against their crotches while they were just standing around mingling with other lawyers. It was definitely not THAT type of party and it was definitely not at a club.
Good lord…how completely horrifying. The one girl from the mail room called in sick this morning and everyone knows why. There are about 80 people in my office and that’s all anyone is talking about so far today. I feel bad for these girls in one way because now, this behaviour on their part will ALWAYS be how they are remembered by everyone here. Ya….you mean the one who puked all over the table last October? Oh…the skanky chick who grinds on married men??? Ugh.

Whoa. You definitely made the right decision to not attend this function. How embarrassing for those girls!

@sillysillybee: oh man! I love office gossip. I would probably quit if I was the mailroom girl who puked last night. That is horrendous! Don’t people know office party etiquette?!

I’ve been to some “memorable” office parties. All were, of course, not officially sanctioned. A coworker once came up to me the next morning and asked “What does this look like to you?! It’s a hickey, isn’t it?! Do you know how I got it?!” Then there was the night that I (wisely) left after dinner at the bar, before they all went to the, um, gentlemen’s club (I work with pretty much all guys).

I love to drink (a lot!) but I’m not stupid enough to get hammered with a bunch of work people!
Actually I have in the past (and been an idiot!) but it was a part-time college job with a bunch of other college age people. We routinely went out together.
I hope those girls are like 22 years old at least and will maybe wise up.

Law firm office parties produce the best kind of scandals. I used to work at a firm for 4 years, and something ALWAYS went down at the Christmas party and/or happy hours.

You know what they say … the worst thing about law firm office parties is looking for a job the next day … 😉

I have never heard of anything like that happening at a corporate office party. That didn’t even happen at my retail office party and we were kids. Wow.

Oh my goodness, they all must be motrified this morning lol!

I’m confused. Why was there an office party on a Thursday when you have work on Friday?

@sillysillybee: I used to work at an ad agency and the Christmas parties were just drunken debuached messes. The best story was a mid-level employee was so wasted, he passed out in the restaurant’s bathroom in a stall. Apparently no one checked the bathroom before they closed, becuase he was locked in the restaurant. When he came-to, he left the restaurant out of a window and went home. His coat was claimed by an employee, so he had no keys, wallet, etc. He couldn’t get into his place, so we went back to the office and slept under his desk. When he woke up, he went back home and called in sick.
The stories are funny as long as they’re not about you!

hahaha gross! I never understand people who get absolutely obliterated with the people they work with! I would NEVER be able to let myself get that crazy – your boss is right there! He is in charge of your livelihood and career! Why would you want to show him how sloppy and distasteful you can get?
I consider every minute at work part of the interview process… if you’re hired already, someone is still watching you for your next promotion or next responsibility… I can have fun but I’m still always guarded from being “that girl”.

@luluvohn: I had the same question when the invite was sent…have no idea why they did it mid-week. Oh well…lol. Thank God I stayed away. Although now I am sorta considering taking FI to the Christmas party next month just to see if history reapeats itself there…everyone loves watching a train wreck.
