@charmedlife357: guests write comments on a card and put it on your wishing tree instead of signing a traditional guest book.
Oh, thats a cute idea. I am going to go with something untraditional as well but I just dont know what yet.
and i found this cute instructions poem here on weddingbee that we'll be using:
These cards will be
for our wedding book
a modern twist
on the standard look.
As we begin our Journey
A brand new Mr. and Mrs.
We could surely use
Your Advice and good Wishes.
Jot down a Memory,
A reminder of the day.
Draw a doodle or picture
If your not sure what to say.
Share with us your Wisdom
About Marriage, Love, and Life,
The secret to being a good Husband
Or a thoughtful, loving Wife.
Please don't forget
It would be such a shame
to hang your card on the tree
Without signing your Name.
Give us words of love or fun
Write or draw your own design.
Hang it on the tree once you’re done!
@Winter12: i like your ideas, especially the cards at the table. maybe you can assign someone to go around and remind people to fill them out/sing the guestbook if you make one.
I had a sign made to have people sign around the rim. It has our names on it and our wedding date. It is made of wood, so plan on displaying it somewhere in my house after the wedding.

I am making a guest book on www.mixbook.com . Here you can make a photo album with your pics and engagement pics and the people can sign the pages of the book. I think it takes the boring out of guest book and makes you want to re-look at it after the wedding.
We did a guest book wish tree...you can see a picture if you scroll down here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/11/14/the-details-pro-pics/
I also made a sign for the table that you can see here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/08/13/we-have-a-solution/
And my number one tip, no matter what you do for the guest book concept, was to have the band leader (or dj) announce every once in a while to sign the guest book wish tree. We got a message from every guest (everyone except my own parents and my inlaws which totally makes me laugh) and then I took the tags and mounted them all in an album along with all of our RSVP cards (people wrote on those too) and cards from the wedding and shower.
FI and I were thinking of taking our engagement pics and creating a concert poster for everyone to sign
I think we'll be doing a guest quilt, since I do a little amateur quilting and it seems like a pretty simple project.
I'm pre-cutting squares of ivory and white fabrics and I'll put out fabric pens (will have to test for bleeding ink first) and have guests sign and write notes on the fabric squares. After the wedding I'll intersperse them with non-signed fabric squares and pull it into a small wall hanging quilt...I don't think I'd pull a guest book out often, and I love the idea of being able to display it somewhere.
We made a photobook on AdoramaPix with our e-pics and left some white space on the pages. People then signed and wrote us messages in the white space around the pictures. It turned out awesome and tons of people wrote us nice messages!
The poem is really sweet, however there is a typo:
Jot down a Memory,
A reminder of the day.
Draw a doodle or picture
If your not sure what to say.
Should be written "you're"
So cute though!

We're having a really small wedding, probably 50 people, and for a while, I wasn't sure what to do when it came to the guest book.
Then I thought about doing something kind of different, like printing out cards with some of our favorite quotes on the back and leaving them on the tables for people to sign with little notes or what not.
I've also been toying with the idea of making my own guest book and putting a quotes on every 5th page or so.
I'm just afraid of doing it and no one really signing it.
What do you think?
