I saw a beautiful pave' rose box where the cards were set upright in the petals. It had real roses but it could be done with silk flowers too. Take a sheet of styrofoam, fill it with the clipped stems in rows, and place in a tray or shallow box. Place cards in petals.
That's interesting! I could put stones or moss or something of the sort in the box too- I don't know what would go with my "theme" which is turning out to be "lace in as many places as possible". Lace fabric is expensive so that wouldn't work.
im doing escort cards slid into a wine cork, then placed in wooden wine crates filled to the top with moss. they will be on a table with a few large floral arrangements that have alot of olive branches and dogwood branches in them.
my wedding style is california-vineyard with hints of nyc and new orleans flair.
I like phishgirl's wine cork idea, what are some other details from your wedding that your place cards could mimic?
Originally I *really really* wanted to hang cord/twine and clothes pins and then use black and white photos and table numbers/names listed on cardstock inbetween fun photos of us and family but we didn't know where we would attach it in our inside venue.
What we have decided to do now is we went to meijer (you could try Walmart, Target, etc) and bought two large brown picture frames that hold multiple pictures and we will put black and white pictures of us (we have collected a TON from our childhoods, families, engagement shots, etc) and put them in some of the spaces and the table number assignments in the others. It is cheap and will be easy to display/take anywhere :) *hopefully* it'll look cute!
we put ours on a bulletin board using pretty pins and had them on an easel that we borrowed from our venue. they always have all sorts of events so we asked if they had one and they did. couldn't hurt to ask if you wanted to go that route.
Easels aren't that expensive. Try Michael's with a coupon, or craigslist. I got one on craigslist for $10.
It might be too much work but I hope to put them on little posts stuck into tiny pots of succulents. No particular reason except that I luuvre succelents.

My parents went to a wedding where the bride made these votive placecards and it gave a beautiful ambiance to the room. WAY too much work in my opinion so I'm going the "boring" route. But it's a great option, and Etsy sells vellum labels for the votives if you're not too keen on DIY.
@sboston06 Thanks
I think you just convinced me of one more DIY I *must* have!
I love this look as well...it is what I described above that I originally wanted!
I am totally doing the pinned to a board on an easel idea. But my easel was only like $12 at Hobby Lobby! I'll probably have to end up getting two easels, but they are way affordable. They are wooden table ones, but a pretty good size...and I am going to spray paint them white.
Our rental company has a full-size (floor) easel that you can rent for $10-$12. It was listed in the "conference/meeting" section - ask your rental company or coordinator at your venue.

The boring old lining them all up on a table in rows in alphabetical order is.. boring.
I've seen people use frames with ribbon rows stapled in the back, and then hanging the place cards from the ribbon and having it on an easel- I like that idea, but geez- Easels are like $100!? It seems like an expensive display for something that won't take long- and by that I simply mean people walking in, finding thier name, taking their card, finding their seat. Then the display is put away b/c there's no more use for it.
Does anyone have any other good idea's for displaying place cards or does everyone mostly just do the plain, old, and boring? Haha
