We are using crates as centerpieces and they are a bit bigger than we anticipated. We are filling them with vegetables but would need to buy out half the farms and supermarkets to fill these completely. Any ideas of what to put underneath the vegetables to take up space in the crates? Then we would pile the veggies on the top.
Thank you in advance 🙂

misswhimsy: packing peanuts? They will be lightweight but take up space. You should be able to get them free from somewhere. Many businesses give them away because they accumulate so many.
I am assuming that you can’t see through gaps in the side of the crates. The vegetables will cover the top. If there are gaps in the sides line the crate with burlap or some other rustic fabric first.

fillers such as hay, or straw, even an empty box or styrofoam block covered in a fabric or painted a color to blend in.

fill it with hay? can you post a picture so we have an idea of what you mean.

misswhimsy: straw? that would go with the rustic theme I assume you’re having if you’re desplaying vegetables… or burlap?

Thanks for all of the ideas!! I love them all so far. Good idea with the burlap to cover the gaps. Here are pictures for a better idea.

misswhimsy: I think I’d lean toward shredded paper 🙂 If you know someone who works in an office, there’s probably an overabundance of it that would just get thrown away otherwise.
