I am not really a huge fan of the traditional ring bearer pillows. I would love to do something fun, different, and unique, but I have no idea what. I love the idea of the ring bowl that Miss Gingerbread is using, but my ring bearer is my 2.5 year old nephew and I can see the beautiful ceramic bowl going for a tumble: not ideal. I've also seen teddy bears, that's a cute idea. But any others? My creative juices just aren't flowing today!! Thanks!!
Oh, i need some fun ideas as well! I am not sure if I want to go the pillow route as well. My nephew will be 3 by the wedding (August) and he's really into his role, so I am sure he would be up for something more fun.
I love sweets- anything baked, cake, cookies, Cupcakes! I especially think cupcakes are the best- my friends and family know I have a special soft spot for them. So I found an Etsy member to hand knit this for me to use as our "pillow". I loved it.
This is our ring bearer pillow:

It is a silk dahlia - and I love it!! I found it on Etsy store, BrassPaperClips.
I am actually going to use a bible. It will have our family name on it, and the rings will be tied to the ribbon book mark. It will also be the bible the priest will hold and "pretend" to read from during our ceremony. I just love sentimental ideas and to have the bible at our wedding be our family bible is just really special to me.
Here are a few posts I found on the subject (I have suggestions in the second post)

we made our "pillow" out of bright green button mums and had the rings attached with a blush pink satin ribbon--it matched our colors and the the effect was great. I need to find a pic. . .
I bought one of these teddy bears. They're dressed link a ring bearer and you can tie the rings the pillow that the bear is holding. There's lots of different types of bears and you can ask the seller to customize the colors.
I am thinking about making a "fishing pole" for our ring bearer to carry down the aisle. He is 4 and my fiance's nephew and loves to fish with him. My fiance loved fishing when he was younger and is now getting me into it (we went for my 2nd time last weekend!) I thought it would be different and cute but I'm nervous that it is not very formal and our wedding is pretty formal. We'll see when we get closer!
Cynderele - that is SUCH a cute idea! I really hope you do it--it's so original and I'm sure your guests would love it!
I'm resurrecting this post because I'm starting to think about ring bearer stuff, and definitely don't want the traditional ring pillow. Anyone else doing something different?
Thanks for bringing this one back doctorgirl! I just saved it to Faves.
We really want our cat to be our ringbearer but....I don't think that's gonna work LOL so we are trying to come up with something fun....Jack is a good kitty...but not THAT good...
We're having a flower dog... That way he gets to wear a flower collar!
I've hatched a ring bearer plan, that if it works I'll share with you shortly :D
LOVE the flower dog idea!!! Hmmm...my friends have a REALLY well behaved doggy...that could work...
Can't wait to see your ring bearer plan :D
@Leah-I found this on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19449874
I also found a frog prince stuffed animal but lost the dang link...if I can find it again I'll post it.
I finished my ring bearer pillow.
Here is the long of it:

Here is the short of it:
Since my fiance and I had to scale down the wedding, eliminating the need for a wedding party, I'm trying like hell to get him to agree to make the guy who would have been his best man now be our ringbearer. The guy is like 6'4" and 230 lbs, and the thought of him carrying a tiny pillow with our rings on it makes me giggle. If we end up having a ring-bearer (all the young relatives are a bit too adhd for this I think) I'm planning to crochet it.
@yellowrose: My ring pillow will be crocheted, too! I fell in love with this project from Once Wed early on. My 89-year-old great-aunt crocheted the two doilies for me. I'm actually mailing them to FMIL today so that she can finish making the pillow. I love the idea of having two different generations of women from both my and FI's side working on it. Maybe it'll become a family heirloom! :o)
I just wrote on my blog about my non-pillow "pillow" - I love that I'm not alone in doing something different!
We're having our ring-bearer carry a small stuffed caribou, which I'm ordering from the World Wildlife Fun adoption program - it's a fuzzy feel-good thing, tax deductible *and* my ring-bearer gets a cute little keepsake!
Our "pillow" is an empty Altoids box that I covered in fabric and ribbon and attached some ribbon to felt to tie the rings to. I would have left as just a regular old Altoids tin and not covered it but FI didn't thing our guests would "get it". (FI LOVES Altoids!! He has like 20 empty boxes stacked on his work desk!) It was a bugger to make but totally worth it! When I showed his Mom she just laughed and said "OF COURSE! What else would have worked?". (BTW it still says Altoids and the nutritional info on the bottom - gotta make sure our photog gets a pic of it! :))
I would like some new ideas for different ideas for the ring bearer. Anybody got anything out there?
I'm going to use a small plate or bowl from my grandmother's china set. I need to figure out some way to secure the rings with ribbon or something though.
I'm not having a ring beaerer, but if I was, I'd want him to carry this trinket box from Uncommon Goods:
My 3 year old son was our ring bearer and I wanted it to be something he would want to carry down the aisle, so this is what I made for him!
We were going to use a ring orb - but didn't end up having a ring bearer. So I just put the rings in a beautiful satin beaded bag. It was not breakable and it fit in a pocket.
We are using a Limoges trinket box that has a lion on top of it. It is elegant and sophisticaed. I cannot imagine using a teddy bear or other stuffed animal... that seems very junior high.
I'm purchasing a Paloma's Nest bowl from Etsy. My FI proposed to me buy painting "will you marry me" into a pottery bowl, so it's perfectly us!!
I love this teddy bear idea--or anything different versus a pillow! But what should my flower girl carry? A bear as well? Just with no rings on it??
Well.... I know this will sound so strange but the other day my FI and I were shopping and we saw the cutest Mini Casserole dish ....a small replica of a Le CREUSET Pot that he actually has...I mean mini...its about big enough to hold maybe 2 eggs.....We laughed and said....wow Gavin(our ring bearer) should bring the rings in that.....my FI is ALWAYS cooking....he loves it maybe even with little pot holders....it would be tooo funny....everyong knows about his love for cooking....his food is awesome!!!!!
I'm having a beach wedding so i thought it would be cute to have them carry down buckets of sand with fake rings tied to the front of them since my ringbearers are 3 and 4 years old and we are getting married in front of a pond it probably isnt a good idea to let them carry the real rings so we will give the real ones to the best man and maid of honor to carry.
My 1 1/2 yr old nephew Nash will be pulling a tonka truck (on a string) down the aisle with the fake rings in the bed of the truck =)
In case anyone else is looking for other ideas, I'm an English teacher and my fiance owns even more books than I do, so I'm tying ribbons present-style around two small, hardcover love poetry books for my ring bearers (yes, I will have two - couldn't choose between the nephews!) to carry down the aisle. They're 9 and 10 and will each be carrying one of our actual rings, tied by thin ribbon onto the longer ribbons wrapping the book.
Does anyone have any other clever ideas? I definitely don't want to use a pillow, but I'm stuck!! None of the ones mentioned really work for our wedding... (outdoors, fun yet sophisticated, suits and sneakers, forget-me-nots and clovers, 2 10-year-old boys as our ring bearers...)
@Ambrocked: Could you have the ring bearer carry a shoe with the rings tied in the laces?
I'm thinking chucks.
@In the media: I've thought about that, but I'm wondering if it'd be too much because the whole wedding party is going to be wearing them (myself included). We're going with Adidas Superstars (people usually call them "Shelltoes"), green stripes for the guys, light blue for the girls. =)
it never occurred to me use something other than a pillow! but this is why i love wedding bee...as soon as someone said "teddy bear" i immediately thought of the first stuffed animal FI got for me early in our relationship. its a small yellow teddy bear...i think now i might just use it as our "pillow"
what do you think?
I dont know if anyone has suggested it but I like the book idea where they hollow out some of the book and hte rings are placed inside! =] Seems safe and secure for little hands! =]
@PurpleUnicorn: I personally LOVE the teddy bear idea, especially yours which is adorable, and obviously has a lot of meaning to it! I wish our boys were younger, I'd use a bear too! =)
We're having a Rock theme. Black and white checkerboard. Vans as the shoes, skulls on the wedding cake kind of thing. I was thinking of somehow attatching the rings to a H.I.M cd case. Or even putting them inside it. Our ring bearer is going to be 2 1/2 by the wedding. We even thought of using a wallet chain and attaching them to his pants. He'll be walking down with his Mother who's my best friend and a bridesmaid.
