I'm not a very creative person, but I just love seeing how cool of stuff people think up for stuff like this! I really, really love STDs with pictures of the couple, because they always look so in love, hehe.
I wish we had it in our budget to send these in the mail, rather than just doing them electronically :/
Have you had any luck in finding ideas yet?
are you planning on something tangible (i.e. not a card/postcard) like that (your examples) or just looking for general ideas?
We're sending a postcard with an engagement photo on the front. It may not be the absolutely most original, but the family members i asked were really excited to have a photo of us. SO I'd make sure that's in there somewhere.
I also love the idea of sending magnets of sorts - the Moo cards are adorable! We just can't fit more than a postcard into budget/time.
We're getting married on Cape Cod so I found a 1950's vintage postcard of the harbor where we're having the festivities and used that to create for Save The Date postcards (cheaper shipping---bonus). I bet there are cool vintage postcards of Newport, if that's where you're having you wedding.
I like the magnets. Yeah -its used a lot, but when you think about a STD going out so many months in advance and sometimes up to 9 months out... you want something people won't lose if they are not the "put it on your calendar immediately" kind of people.
Those stinkin' magnet STD's have saved me NUMEROUS times. You could always add something to them too to give them more oomp... like a 3d magnet.
Oh the wheels in my head are turning already!!!!
But yeah - the coasters are awesome for the exact same reason. People will use them again and again and will remember your day.
My fi loves magnets for being so pratical. Now that we narrowed that dwn, we want somethign creative to go on them
@ ebs1123, I love the moo cards too, we are deciding between the moo cards and vistaprint, since they have great specials.
@Shaema, I love that idea, I saw a bunch in Brooklyn at a flea market, but no Newport or RI ones. A Cape Cod wedding will be so fun!
@ Krissycake, we're lookign for general creative ideas. We've pretty much narrowed it down to a magnet, but want to add something mroe creative, whetehr in the picture, wording or an additional piece that will be creative and useful -liek givign room block info.
We did bookmarks. We're both huge bookworms, and we managed to get a line drawing of the building (and surrounding landmarks) where we're having our reception. A bit of photoshop, indesign, slicing and beribboning later, they're proving very popular!
I think a STD calendar would be cool, but kind of expensive. It could be a small one and each month will have a picture of the couple, or maybe things that are important to the couple and maybe for special dates (like "our anniversary") could be added on the calendar with The Big Day being marked specially. I think that would be another practical way to help people remember.
It could even be a calendar with just one photo and all the months of that year with TBD circled in red or something (to save on costs of having multiple colored pictures).
We took pictures of our dog dressed up in a tux and made postcards with them. They're simple, but we've gotten tons of compliments on them.

Hi bees, My fi and I are in the process of narrowing down save the date ideas and want something super creative. What are you doing for yours? Whats the most creative idea you've seen?
I saw one today on a blog that was something like See you on the coast and they were coasters, which is cute and original. I also loved Miss Dumplings engagement ring box/fortune cookie save the dates.
