I bought our youngest dog a shirt that says "I'm going to be a big brother!". My folks already have grandkids, so it isn't a huge ordeal to them.
For DH's family, we bought his sister a onsie that said "Wild about auntie" on it and gave it to her for her birthday. They are so excited! It's the first on his side (he's the only one married as well).
Not that creative - it wasn't a planned pregnancy, and I've been so sick that I don't really care about creativeness.
I sent my parents flowers for Easter and signed the card, Love - 78h2o, DH, & baby N. (EDD: 12/5/12). They called me immediately, crying happy tears.
A friend announced her pregnancy to a group of friends at Christmas party where there was a gift swap... they wrapped up a copy of the DVD "Due Date" and put a sticker underneath that said, Baby S, EDD: date. I thought that was cute!
I still haven't figure out if/how I will announce on Facebook... maybe with a profile photo with a chalkboard in front of my belly that says baby BOY or baby GIRL N. We'll see... I also might wait until baby is born!
@78h2o: My friend changed her facebook profile picture to a simple picture of the spaghetti sauce brand "prego" I didn't get it until I read some of the comments. haha. I thought it was really really cute though.
@yellowshoe: A friend from high school did the same thing - I would have totally stolen that idea if she hadn't done it first. Super cute!
I found one I think is REALLY cute:

My friends did a photo one, they stood in front of a brick wall, and used chalk to make a plus(+) sign between the two of them, and an equals(=) sign after. They finished up the equation with a great big number 3. Its was super cute.
We sent everyone Christmas cards announcing it. You could really do it for any holiday or no holiday at all. I think the surprise of it being in a piece of mail really got people. Everyone loved it.

@nikkialys: Ooh I saw a bunch of those too! I was thinking that would be cute for an announcement to our friends :)
I also saw this one:

I was thinking of maybe somehow incorporating the "2 feet" idea with a tape measure, like marking it off or writing on the tape measure itself. DH works in construction, so it would tie in with his job. Still pondering it over...
If we did the quail eggs, I would give it to them in person, I want to see their reactions!
@mwitter80: So cute!! And what a beautiful family :) I definitely want to mail out announcements as well. I found a TON of inspiration photos today for those. Still struggling on how to announce it in a fun way for our families.
Here are some of the other ones I found in case it helps anyone else :)

These were the two that we did that I totally stole off of Pinterest. :)
@babybuzz: this cracking egg idea is soooooo super cute, i love it! and so many other inspirations here!
we weren't very creative (too much in shock and judgement clouded by joy), so just sent out an email to our parents (they live very far away unfortunately) with the subject - great news, see attachment, and attached a photo of the pregnancy test
. they were overjoyed nonetheles!!
@zen bride: Well I didn't tell DH in a very creative way (peed on a stick, waited together, kissed, he went to work, LOL!), so I figured I should make up for it. Both of our parents have been asking for ages when we're going to have a baby, and I know his mom in particular is going to freak the heck out, so I wanted to something special for them all. Plus this is our first, so I want it to be special for us too!
So I think we came up with our winning idea: We're going to get custom calendars made with photos of the family, etc, but for March, put a photo of our sonogram with our due date circled on the calendar. I thought we'd give them with our wedding albums we just had done under the guise of "Oh they threw them in for free" and see if they notice. The only problem is having to be patient and keep the secret while wait for our first ultrasound!!!
Our plan for when we are pg is to secretly paint a nursery (with the help of my sister because she's awesome and I'm hoping will paint us some murals, so she would know already) and get a crib then tell my parents we painted our guest rooms and send them up to have a look. Same with FI's parents. We live in a newly built home so we paint rooms here and there and they always want to see new work. I'm hoping if we get pregnant fast enough after the wedding, and we play it casual in terms of telling them about the painting that they won't expect it (in law's that is).
MIL scouts for signs and symptoms SO EARLY.. to the point it's annoying. When SIL announced she was preg, MIL went upstairs cause she already had a damn gift for her. I could tell SIL was bummed that it took the wind out of her sails.
@MrsSawyer: I was thinking about doing something like that too, but we're house hunting right now, so I know the timing there wouldn't work. It's SUCH a cute idea! We were thinking in our new house about just hanging a sonogram shot above the fireplace and seeing if anyone notices, LOL! Wouldn't that make for a conversation starter at the housewarming party!
ETA - I can totally picture my MIL doing the same sort of thing. That really is disappointing for your SIL :(
For my MIL we got her an ornament that said Grandma to Bee on the front and had our due date on the back.

SIL got a onesie for her baby that said "This little monkey is going to be a big cousin".

My stepfather got a scrabble mug with the words "I love grandpa" on it.
And my mother got a calendar that counts down the weeks until she's a grandma.
@mwitter80: You have such a beautiful family! Just wanted to tell ya that :)
@Bee27: Those are so cute!! Where did you get the calendar from or did you make it? I love the idea of the countdown!
@babybuzz: I actually got the count down from Hallmark, but couldn't find a pic of it. But I just found a pic of one on Etsy. They have slightly different ones at Hallmark but the concept is the same.

I just wanted to come back and update this. We decided to do the calendars, but we started in August (this month), so that our March due date would be pretty buried in the calendar rather than just 3 months in ;) It's an academic year let's say, LOL! We did each month with photos of birthdays, anniversaries, holidays in that particular month for everyone in the family which everyone loved. I managed to dig up some pretty old photos from my parents wedding, when my sister and I were kids, etc. Everyone loved it.
We put just our ultrasound photo for the month of March and when they got to it, my mom saw it and said "Oh and there's your ultrasound...." like it was a normal thing to see. And then a pause, and she said "Wait a minute! Are you pregnant?!" My MIL was also with us (it was my parents, MIL, DH and I), and she was absolutely SPEECHLESS. The calendars were a HUGE hit. My mom wants me to print more so she can take one on vacation with her, LOL!
Definitely a winning idea with the family :)
For my FIL and SMIL, we found a card that had a seahorse on the front. I wrote a little message under it that said "Did you know the male seahorse carries the babies?" and when they opened the card, there was our ultrasound and over top I wrote "Not in this family!" They were shocked and LOVED it as well, so we're two for two!! I may actually use the seahorse idea as a mailed announcement to our friends :)
i/m not sure if you've already made the announcement BUT we bought these on etsy!!

the best one i EVER heard.. a client last named "cookey"..son and daughter in law sent out cards with an oven on the front... opened it and it said "there's a cookey in the oven"
of course there was a cookie tray with baby bows wrapped around.. i LOVED it!

Did anyone tell their friends or family they were pregnant in a really fun way? This is our first, but there are already kids on either side of the family (one of them is pretty recent too), so giving grandma/grandpa type clothes/presents aren't likely to signal any message to them, LOL! I'm pretty crafty and creative, but I'm coming up with a blank. I want to do something really fun and unique for them as they've all been waiting so patiently for us!
The only one that's caught my eye is fortune cookies with a message like "There will be a baby in your future." and for the lucky numbers putting the due date. My dad doesn't love Chinese food though, so I could have a hard time convincing him to eat it, LOL!
