I got it from Walmart for $289, and Sure Cuts A Lot was a download from Craftedge for $75. Today was Payday : )

I also got the little spatula which I found helps a looot.

My first mini project was a mockup of a STD idea I had. (I was just checking to make sure everything was installed and working correctly) Wish I could play with it more tonight, but I have to sleep : (

This literally took me like 10 minutes total to design in Illustrator, load it in SCAL, cut it, run it through my xyron and stick it all together. Soo many possibilities with this little machine. I can't wait to try more with it!

You can't really tell by the picture, but everything is cut from the blue paper.  The red and the white are sandwiched inbetween two sheets.

You mean you can turn illustrator files into things you can cut on the cricut?  CRAP!  The fact that I couldn't do custom shapes was the biggest defense I had against buying that thing!  Well at least the cost should keep me from buying it for a while...

Yep!  With Sure Cuts A Lot you can cut any SVG (scalable vector graphic)!  You just have to convert any font into outlines.  One of these days I'll get a tutorial up.  You can see Pengy's adorable stationary she made with her cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot.  I think it'll def be worth it in the long run...

But then again, I am trying to justify to myself spending ~$375 on craft supplies  : )

Edit:  My Cricut + Spatula + (whatchamacalit candy bar...) came out to $335 because of our ridiculous 10% sales tax.  Then I bought some pretty new paper :D

@Poodle: Yesterday I was in a craft store and saw a little tube of quilling papers for $9!  I thought of your beautiful quilling inspiration photos, and then of you cutting out little strips.  How easy would it be to load up the cricut and have uniform strips cut automatically!?  It cuts paper up to 24" long.  I know it's a long drive from where you're going to live with your FI, but you'd always be welcome to come play with it if you wanted to see more of California!

I'm like a kid on christmas morning with this thing, guys.  I come home from work excited to play with it : )

@Starshine: I wish I could take credit for that shape!  It'd take me forever to make it, I'm awful with the pen tool in illustrator.  Soo, I borrowed it from Pengy, who borrowed it from Martha : )

I updated the shape of the STD a little bit.  For those interested, I plan on putting a tutorial up on my blog this weekend : )

Ooooh, I really like the updated version of your STD!

I've bid on a ton of cricuts on ebay, but never win. I think it's a sign lol! I want one so bad, but I feel like I wouldn't use it enough to justify the price...

@brightasthesun  I tried bidding on some, too.  Everyone bids in the last few minutes and it drives me crazy!  I lost three auctions on Tuesday, so I decided to just go to Walmart and get one there.  (It was payday, the money was burning a hole in my pocket!)
