There's a pressure setting on the left side you have to set. You'll need to set it for a much lighter pressure to cut very thin, fine paper (velum) or it will rip it and set a stronger pressure to make sure it cuts all the way through cardstock. You also need to check that the cutting blade is in properly.
Thanks for the tips! How do I know if the blade is in properly? What number should the blade be at? I know I am just a beginner...but gosh I feel like a dummy! Thanks for your help!!

I recently bought a Circut Expression machine to help with some DIY projects for our April 24th, 2010 wedding. I read the directions and decided I would give it a try last night. I was having a hard time cutting through paper and card-stock. Am I doing something wrong? If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated! Thanks Bees!!!!
