I love how you used the pumpkins for a vase and the tealight! Very creative :) I think the gourd would look fine, but unless apples are in your theme elsewhere, I would probably skip them. If you, your parents, or your in-laws have some candlestick holders laying around (they don't have to match), I would throw those in too with some yellow candlesticks, just to give it a bit more elegance and dimension.
If you are having white linens, I would consider a colored cloth napkin or something similar underneath to center everything.
I really like the white pumpkin votives, it's fall without being cliche.
I love exactly what you've got there! I'd forget about the apples - you don't need them. I think the mums look great in the pumpkin! If you want to add something I have seen a bowl with floating candles and cranberries in the water and it looked really nice!
Also you could use mini apples in a bowl arrangement... One more thing - can you make the roses sit a little more flush with the mums? That might look a little more polished.
I think that they look good and are very creative! If I was to have any suggestions, it would be to carry the greenery through the top of the centerpiece. That is my only thought, that maybe some sprigs of green in the flowers would make it look less like blocks of solid color. But again, personal tastes but a great DIY!
Very cute! I love the pumpkin-as-vase idea, and the colors look sooo nice together. Awesome job! Wish I could do something like that!
=D thanks you guys for the feedback !!! I appreciate it tons!
I'm not much of a DIYer so this was a bit scary for me to say the least.
@Shiner: lines! hadn't thought of that. I'm planning on using w/e they have at the restaurant where I am having the reception b.c well....(if we're gonna keep it real and all) i'm running out of money....
@MarzipanMrs.: yeah, ur right about the roses. they need to more inline with the mums. thanks
@PopRox: hadn't thought about more green, thanks for the suggestion
HoyaLawya2010: you can do something like is! like I said i'm not much of a DIYer so if I can do it you can too!! I would def. encourage you to try it out. if you want detailed directions let me know =)
All the other wonderful ladies. thanks for the postive feedback. I was a bit nervous to but up the pictures so thanks for being so nice
Thanks--that's really sweet of you to offer! I am a fall wedding so it would work, but I just can't see myself carving around 20 pumpkins. Lol I hate carving them at Halloween b/c I don't like pulling the "guts" out--I make FI reach in and do it! I could totally get behind fake pumpkins but then the authenticity would be lost.
I think I'm going to use wine bottles as vases and just slap some calla lilies in them and bunch 4-5 bottles on each table. That's abot the extent of my DIY! :)
LOL! We're centerpiece twins! We still have a week before we can logically carve ours, but wow, do yours look beautiful! Great job!
@hoyalawya2010 yeah the guts are disgusting... i had to do them myself =/
the wine bottles will look so nice and will be a nice surprise then just regular vases. I love calla lilies they will look really clean and pretty.
@Bride109: centerpiece twins! hehe love that =) How early before the date are you buying your pumpkins and how early before the wedding are you carving them? I made carved the pumpkin Wed. evening and the pumpkin and mums are still going strong but the roses are silting fast. b/c the mums are still in the plastic plant pot that they came in they are doing great but the roses don't have water so I may get flower pick thing to keep them fresher. I want to figure out how early I can make them so I am not making 13-15 pumpkins the night before =) Hope yours turn out great!
btw your wedding date is on my birthday =D
@HoyaLawya2010: Something else you could consider is doing fake pumpkins. I know that Michael's sells them this time of year. You could just cut out the middle and never have to worry about them going bad! You could put a little glass inside (from the dollar store) and that would hold the water.
That is such a cute idea!! I really love that little pumpkin votive!!!
I just want to suggest that I think the flowers need a little something else mixed in, maybe some green, like someone else said, or berries for some texture?

and maybe make the stems a little shorter and spread them out a little more rounded so that less green shows from the side.
Or if you were going for the color-block modern look, then I would just make the roses flush with the mums, as someone else already suggested.....
This is such a great centerpiece idea for a fall wedding!!! Awesome!!
I think that is the coolest idea!! They look great! It makes me want to make one for thanksgiving centerpieces! We are going to a friends and this would make an awesome hostess gift! I hope you don't mind if i steal your idea
I am SOO excited that you posted this. We're having a fall themed wedding next October and I had planned on doing the white pumpkin/mum centerpieces from the get go. I think yours look great. Good job!
@Chartreuse: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first arrangement you posted. I think I may have to steal it!
I think it is great. I personally would prefer the flowers sit a little lower than they currently are. I really love the white pumpkin candle holders.
thanks ladies for you comments and suggestion. I appreciate them =D
@Chartreuse wow, sweet pictures! i like the mix of flowers like that, it's pretty =) I mostly stuck with mums because they are cheap ;-) 6 roses was like 6.99 at my local market while the mums were 3.25. But i like how you up it as a color block modern look.... i think if ppl ask me i'll go with that instead of telling them it was like only 15 bucks to make. If i had more money left in my flower budget I'd def mix it up with more flowers .
Allyser yeah it would totally be a great thanksgiving thing, I didn't even think of that. and your def. right i think it was make a nice hostess gift then like just a regular bouquet of flowers. It was pretty easy to make and i'm sure she'll like it.
When I read the post title, I was prepared to not like it, but actually, it's quite charming! And impressive for someone who does not DIY often. I think it's a memorable centerpiece.
I bought pumpkins mid last week and have not carved them yet. The wedding is this Sat. the 9th, and we plan on carving them the 7th or 8th. We were a little worried about the weather and possible rot because temperatures have been all over the place...but it seems to have cooled off and stayed steady. We're doing the candle in the pumpkin ones on our tables, with leaves underneath it.
Thanks ladies for the kind words =) and as a new DIYer I'm so glad to have gotten such positive responds. You all are really quite kind and generous
@bride109 I've been monitoring the pumpkins and if you carve them on the 7th they will def. still stay fresh and everything by the 9th. Especially if you have a lot of last min. things to do I would not worry about rotting and go ahead and carve. The roses though because they aren't in any water really since I just shoved 'em in btwn the mums so that for sure needs to be done last min. I mean idk what flowers your using or anything but the mums b/c they are like placed inside the pumpkin with dirt and all will do fine. Heck i posted this a week ago and the pumpkin and mums are still doing pretty okay so the 7th for an oct 9th wedding should be okay.
wow oct 9th... that's sooo soon!!! =D I hope everything turns out well with your pumpkin centerpieces. please let us know how it all turns out. congrats on 3 more days
i love the small pumpkin/gourde votives! but i would make some tweaks to the main centerpiece:
1. PAINT the pumpkins white. this will look much more elegant and not so "halloween"
2. choose prettier flower colors than orange and yellow. there's something about those colors that is not pretty at all and a wedding should be, above all things, pretty. what about orange and pink? if you did pink roses stuck in the orange mums in a white painted pumpkin that would look great! or, why not skip on the literal "fall" colors and go for white and green, or something, in the white painted pumpkin?
@Kemi82JP: paint, hmm never thought of that. Although, I don't know how natural that would look, this would probably take away from the pumpkin.
pink is kind of 'eh'.... I'm not a 'pretty in pink' kind of gal. Pink is a little to frou-frou and not as interesting for me personally. Not my scene. Thanks though ;-)

@ilovemyhotdogdog: ah ha! i knew i'd seen them somewhere.... i finally found an example! check these out, GORGEOUS white painted pumpkins :) if pink's not your thing then that's fine, all i mean is that it should be pretty. i also suggested classic green and white which when placed in pumpkins will still look fall but be pretty at the same time. you could even do green and white in the orange pumpkins. i had a friend who just got married this fall and she had all orange and yellow flowers and the girls were in brown dresses... very "fall" but just not pretty! also, if you want a natural white pumpkin i believe there's a type called Lumina Pumpkins that are naturally white or cream.
aaaaaand i just realized your wedding is in a few days! so it's probably too late ha, but regardless have a wonderful time and enjoy every minute!!

Hi Ladies,
Okay so i just made a sample of the centerpiece I want to use for my fall themed wedding on Oct 30th. We're getting pretty close to the big day so I welcome you to give me your honest opinion of my work.
The centerpiece is made up mostly of orange mums with 6 yellow roses . I was originally thinking of putting it inside a white pumpkin originally but my local supermarket only had orange ones. I was also thinking of maybe putting an apple, one of those funky looking gourds, and one pumpkin tea light in a cluster next to the arrangement but i forgot to buy the apple and my supermarket only had white little pumpkins.
Do you like it the way it is? Do you think the apple and other gourd will look weird? Are the mums too orange in comparison to the orange pumpkin? Should I keep it in an orange pumpkin or try and look for the white?
let me know what you thinks =)
