Before I let my pretty go under the knife (needle) and I pay for all these changes, I thought I’d post my crudely photoshopped pics and get your input. I bought this dress for just $300 because it was my perfect measurements and because I loved the dress in general, but it’s mine now and I want it to be exactly what I want. There’s a couple things.
- First, the neckline of the underneath part is way too “soft” or “straight” for my taste. I think it’d look less matronly if it were a sweetheart neckline.\
- Second, the crystal applique that it came with was kind of in bad condition. Extremely loosely beaded crystals flipped over/hanging off. On top of that, I really prefer a floral look over a bling look.
- Third, I think the dress would be prettier and more me-ish with a blush pink sash instead of ivory.
Here’s the original:
Original ivory crystal sash:

So! Which do y’all prefer…
- Sweetheart neckline vs. original neckline
- Floral applique vs. original crystal applique
- Blush pink ribbon vs. ivory ribbon
Oh, and one more thing, the dress was much more flared at the knee on its first owner…on me, ia kinda hangs straight! What’s up with that? I had the exact measurements the first owner did. Is my ass that flat or…what? Lol. Would getting a trumpet slip to go under it make it poof out the bottom better?

2YorkiesMama: Congrats on finding a pretty dress at that price!
I do prefer most of your modifications. I think the sweetheart neckline really changes and improves the look of the dress. If you like the blush colour and it’s more you or matches your colours, I say go for it, but both work well IMO. I prefer the crystal beading on the original sash, as the flower applique might be fighting for attention with your bouqet and it might just be a bit too much. Is that the size it will be IRL? You may want to try it on with a teeny hoop or some layers of tulle underneath for more poof. Good luck!

2YorkiesMama: I agree with PP. I like all the alterations except for the new sash. Could you do a pink sash and reattach the crystal applique to the pink sash?? Or maybe just another pink sash with different crystals? I don’t know to be honest but if the pink is more you, I would try to find a pink sash but without the floral details so it doesn’t clash/be hidden by the flowers you carry (or any other object if you aren’t carrying flowers). The dress is beautiful. I’m sure whatever you do your dress will be gorgeous!

I one hundred percent agree, I love all the alterations except for the floral applique, it just doesn’t feel like it’s working with the dress to me.

would you wear the pink sash on its own without the floral applique? disclaimer: im not a fan of beaded or fancy sashes particularly with lace. you’ll hae bouquet, jewelry etc, its enough going on. i like the pink though.

2YorkiesMama: your dress is lovely. I prefer the ivory sash and the altered sweetheart neckline personally.

2YorkiesMama: What a great buy! I love the sweetheart neckline. I like the pink sash, but I think a plain pink satin would be nice so it doesn’t compete with the other details.

2YorkiesMama: Love all of youre alterations! Unlike previous posters I like the flower pink sash I think it adds a sweet bit of whimsy to the dress.
Also I think adding a mermaid crinoline would defintiely give you the shape you desire.
You’re totally on the right track!!

I like the sweetheart neckline, and the blush sash…without the floral applique though.

I prefer all three of your alterations. I wasn’t 100% sure about the floral applique at first but actually really like it and it suits the rest of the dress.

This is a crappy cellphone pic so it’s really terrible lighting, but here is the appliqué pinned to the existing sash, to show what size it is in real life. Also don’t mind the dry cleaning hanger…lol.
Thanks for for all the responses! At first it made me rethink the applique, and I never thought of having just the plain pink sash, so I definitely have options.

100% yes on the sweetheart neckline.
Get the pink sash added but maybe have the applique be pin-on-able? If you’re not sure about it.
Look into a slip if you want a more ‘flared out’ look!

I like the neckline alteration and the pink sash. The floral app looks a bit juvenille to me. It distracts from the prettiness of the lace in my opinion.

2YorkiesMama: My vote is for sweetheart neckline and plain pink sash! Very pretty! 🙂

I agree with the other PPs! I love the new neckline, but I would prefer the blush sash without the floral element.
