futuremrsslp:  My SO and I took a Cruise from Galveston, TX in February 2013. We went to Jamaica, Cayman Islands, and Cozumel. It was great for the first 4 days. By the time we were due to arrive in Cozumel, a cold front blew in and we could not dock in Cozumel because the waves were too choppy and the boat would have hit the dock itself. So that left us with 3 days on the boat with a cold front/drizzly rain. Those days were pretty crappy, because it was too cold to swim, I had to buy an overpriced sweatshirt because I didn’t have anything warm other than my jeans. We tried to get in the hot tub, but it was soooo cold the whole time and the only reason we stayed in so long is because we were so frightened to get out of the hot water and step into the wind! There definitely wasn’t enough for us to do when the weather was bad, but we aren’t too into gambling or many of the other entertainment cruises offer.

So ours was 50/50, when the weather was great, the cruise was great. When the weather was crappy, I felt that we had wasted our money and we were stuck on a boat.

futuremrsslp:  I went on a family cruise a while back…we considered it the family christmad present and we went in January (to the Caribbean) on a 7 days cruise and we had great weather.  The only time we had an issue was when we were going from the cruise ship to one port…there was a storm over the water so it was a very choppy ride (and i’m hydrophobic and thought i was gonna die) but once we got to land it was 70 degrees out and all blue skies.

futuremrsslp:  Yes! I definitely recommend a cruise in Jan. I would opt for the Mexican cruise since you went to the Bahamas recently.

futuremrsslp:  FI and I took a cruise in January and it is in like the 90’s (Caribbean), and it’s beautiful! Lovely weather in Florida and the Caribbean in winter.

I have actually been to the Caribbean and FL many many times in the winter (only once a cruise) and it is always lovely.

My husband and I are planning on going on a cruise is January. We’ve never been on a cruise though, so I don’t have any advice about timing and weather. I’m excited though. It will be the first cruise for both of us!

futuremrsslp:  we’re planning on using Royal Carribean too. My in-laws cruise with them a lot and have loved every experience they had with them. For the cruise we’re looking at we would be on Briliance of the Seas I think.

futuremrsslp:  my fiance and I live in florida about an hour from two ports and we cruise atleast 4-5 times a year, usually in off peak months. The last two years we cruised in January and it might as well have been July because the weather was perfect. Hot and sunny and beautiful! All we have left this year is we are going on a three nighter the week before the wedding as our bachelor/bachelorette parties and then we are doing a week long one December 6th with the family. I stalk Vacationstogo.com and when I see a deal I grab it! I hate flying so we cruise. January is an awesome time to go! Kids are in school usually and the weather is still amazing! Royal Carribbean has better food then Carnival, and the crowd is sometimes a little older. We prefer Carnival for the fact that there’s stuff to do 24/7 and the prices can’t be beat! cruise lines like holland America are great, but the boat is closed and all the guests are in bed at 6pm Cuz it’s an older crowd. The ships shut down earlier. Just my experience! Have fun with whatever youse guys end up doing!!!

I went on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise in January of 2011 on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas, and it was awesome! The weather was perfectly sunny and warm at every port of call, and there was only 1 night it rained while at sea.

Side note: Besides Royal Caribbean’s awesome food, they also have the best. beds. ever.  I don’t know what fairy dust magic they put in their mattresses, but I had never slept so well in my life!
