CT Brides: How to have a friend marry you?

Have the friend do it, but get married at the courthouse the day before or after, then it’ll be legal.

I just did the research on this and in CT, you have to have a proper minister or registered JP. It is all because if you go the online minister route the city you file in my not recognise the marriage. We are going around it by having a friend do the main service and we hired a JP who will be on-site to actually marry us at the end of the ceremony. We found a JP that is going to “coach” our friend on putting it all together.

The harder part is finding a JP that is ok with not doing the ceremony. I spoke with a few who wanted nothing to do with my wedding. I assumed they would be thrilled to not have to write the ceremony but it was the other way around.

Wow! Glad I read this. We are planning for march 2015 but I never expected any trouble having my brother or a good friend of ours do our ceremony (both offered). I guess I’ll have to find a similar work around. I like the courthouse day before idea In order to make it work.
