depends… are they regular sized or minis? i would say 1 per person if they are regular size, and 2 if they are small!

We did cupcakes at our reception (regular size, not mini), and ordered one per person, and 10 extra (we had 85 guests). We only had 4 left over at the end of the night.

I would do the same thing again. There was enough for everyone who wanted one to have one, and some extra for those people with a huge sweet tooth. But we also had a chocolate fountain and a caramel fountain (yay for having a sister who works at the venue and can get massive discounts!), so if there isn’t any other type of dessert maybe we would have ordered some more extras.

How many people are you having at your wedding?  I would order 1.5 of your total guests, so if you are having 100 people, get 150 cupcakes, so there are plenty for everyone to have one, but not too many that you have to worry about having a ton of leftovers!

I agree with thefuturemrsjewell! I had 2 cupcakes per person at my reception and it was way too much. 1.5 per person would have been perfect!

If you have a dancing crowd don’t overdo it.  We had 150 people and other desserts as well.  We had 150 cupcakes with MANY left over.  Same thing happened at my friends wedding.  By the time the dessert comes out people are more interested in dancing.

I would say 1.5 per person is a good number. Is it a cupcake buffet or will servers be serving the guests their cupcakes on a plate or giving out platters for the table?
If it’s a plated dinner people most likely won’t eat more than one. If they have the option to grab more, they definitely will 🙂

I was also going to say 1.5 per person. Cupcakes are so easy to just grab and enjoy which may cause them to disappear too quickly if you only order 1 per person.

@Annie: if you’re having 2 flavors & they have the option of just grabbing them, I’d definitely up your number to 2 per person!! Trust me, they’ll go 🙂

What is .5 cupcakes? Never quite understood that. I would just have 2 person and leave it at that. Some people will take extras and others won’t touch any. If it’s a concern, maybe you could have a sign that says “2 per person” or some other tactful way of saying that. Either way, it’s better to have too much of something with leftovers you can send home than to run out.

My cupcakes were a hit, don’t order more then one per person. I know some of my guests had two, but I had about 12 left at the end of the night even after people had seconds. Some people just don’t like cake. To warn you, some people are rude, so have a picture taken of your setup because people WILL steal them before the offical “cake cut”. They did at mine and they took them from the font and center. Grr.
