i've decided to have a tower of cupcakes as the dessert for my bridal shower and then an actual 3-tier cake for the wedding. i loved the cupcakes look too so i figured this was a good compromise!!
hope this helps!
I am planning on doing cupcakes and this is what I found. Two vendors that do "cupcake trees" which are stands, shaped like layered round wedding cakes. The cupcakes sit on the layers and they can decorate the stand to mimic a cake. The top layer is an actual, small wedding cake, with your cake topper and all, which you can cut. The cupcakes were beautiful and delicious, so I am very excited!!
go to cupcaketree.com I got mine from there and it is perfect.
how are cupcakes more expensve than cake- cupcakes $3 each - cake $4-5 a slice??
split it.
Do a small 2 tier cake on a pedastal with cupcakes as the bottom 2-3 tiers.
AHH!
I wanted cupcakes so badly but this is what the decision came down to: most bakeries have a "wedding dept" and a "general dept" and cupcakes do not fall under the "wedding" scheme of things. So to get 150 or so cupcakes for me, I would have had to pay an arm and a leg to get the delivered or appoint someone to pick them up. Not to mention, they seem to dry out a little more then cake does since their are no fillings. So that led me back to a wedding cake! hope this helps? Or gives you some questions to ask your baker!
Hayley--where do you live? Special cupcake places will often deliver for weddings, and since they're pretty hip, they're popping up all over the country. Also, any cupcake place should make the cupcakes the morning of, and they definitely should not dry out by the time they're served. HTH! If you need some cupcake recommendations for California, I'm your gal. Let me know!

For anyone who has had experience with either attending a wedding or having your own wedding with cupcakes vs a cake - I would LOVE to get advice. I am going back and forth between the two. I love the look and simplicity of cupcakes - however I am not sure with a wedding next June, outside. Also - cupcakes are pricier than a cake and need more room.
Thanks for any comments!!!
