    Hey Bees,

My FI and I just got a bakery quote for $4-5 per cupcake for our wedding.  We've gotten quotes for up to $6.25!  Since we're new at this whole wedding thing, I just wanted to put some feelers out there and see if anyone got a different quote.  We're in Raleigh, NC and we'll be getting married on the Outer Banks.  We're thinking around 100 cupcakes, and we're going for a red velvet cupcake with another type TBD.  Anybody else get different numbers?

Thanks for all the help, ladies :)

I got my cupcakes in Boston.  The prices you were quoted sound extremely high.  I also wanted 100 and all the places just used their normal cupcake prices.  Are you going to cupcake places?  or cake places?  Cupcakes in LA and Boston tend to be ~$3 per cupcake.  Are these places suggesting that if you were to go there to buy one cupcake it would cost $5?!!  That's ridiculous.  If anything, they should give you a discount for ordering a large quantity.

Anyway, we ended up going with a place that charged us $2.75 per cupcake and she let us use her cupcake stand.  We got 4 different flavors.   It was just a local bakery that makes good cupcakes.  You might ask them their prices before you tell them it's for a wedding.  Good luck!

Holy cupcakes batman! My mini-cupcakes are $3 per DOZEN-but they are minis. I know I live in a semi-rural part of SW Georgia, so prices tend to be quite a bit cheaper here (my alterations for my dress-including hemming, adding fabric and reworking some things, hemming my sons ceremony pants, and tacking the neckline of a BM dress...$70!) but that still sounded super reasonable to me for mini-cupcakes...and the lady is going to deliver them to the church the day of our rehearsal (which is this coming Friday-wow!) She bakes part time and works full time for the Board of Education, so I know her outside of weddding stuff.

I ordered two dozen cupcakes from the bakery that made our cake (for the kids Laughing) and I think they were around $2.50 each, which was the lowest price I had seen for cupcakes in my area (SF Bay Area).  I used a local bakery that isn't a wedding factory bakery, so that may have been why they were less expensive.  Plus, they are not a cupcake bakery.

As I am typing, I am also remembering that my friend had cupcakes at her wedding last summer and I believe they ordered them from a local grocery store (a more gourmet store, but still a grocery store).  That might be another way to go.  $5 per cupcake seems a bit steep!

I'm in Minneapolis - I paid about $2.50 per cupcake. $5 is really high - unless they start doing some crazy decorations...

We did have some other ones for the rehearsal dinner - same bakery and they were about $3.25 per person - we had custom fondant airplanes and hearts made, where as the other ones were simple flowers on top of the frosting.

Our flavors were black velvet with cream cheese, banana with cream cheese and gluten free vanilla.

We paid 1.25 per cupcake, but we used a lady that works out of her home. I'd say she's better than any of the bakers in our area anyway, but we're not exactly in a big city. $5 seems like a lot, no matter where you are, I'd see if you can find someone else.

It seems like cake prices are $2-3 a slice, I would rather have cake for that price! I'm in Tennessee so in the south near you...

I live in Indianapolis and mine are $2 each, but you have to order by the dozen.

I would do some reserach on local boards (I find the local board for Indy on the knot is more active than the local board here) or just type in the city and cupcakes to see if there are any yellowpages or news stories of places you haven't heard of yet.

I love you ladies.  Thank you so much for the perspective...I thought it was really unreasonable as well but really had nothing to base that thought on.  We're going to keep looking and might be picking up our 'cakes on our way out of Raleigh into the Outer Banks.  If Boston cupcakes are that price, we should definitely be able to get that at a max, in my opinion.

Really, thank you all so very much!  I truly appreciate it.  And all your flavors sound yum-o!

The cupcakes we ordered from a fancy cupcake bakery in Boston for our engagement party were $36 per dozen (I think they're $3.50 or $4.00 per cupcake if you order them individually).  I thought that this was on the high end for cupcakes from a city bakery.  Sounds like some more shopping around is in order...

I got married in Indiana, and the place I went to quoted us 1.25 per cupcake, and like 25cents extra for filling. I got JUMBO cupcakes for 2.25 each (again, a bit extra for filling, which we didnt want).

Thanks to all of your wonderful, helpful advice, I got a new quote and we should be getting our cupcakes for $2-3 per yum-o.  Thank you all so much!  Now, we just have to figure out a way to transport them from Raleigh to our venue on the Outer Banks!

I'm glad you got a new quote Little O, because if somebody wanted me to pay 5 bucks a cupcake, it had best be given to me, handed over and the wrapper peeled gently away by Gerard Butler or something.  You'd have to make it GOOOD to make me pay that for a cupcake!  But if you add in Gerard to the mix, I'd say I'd be getting 2 cupcakes for the price of 1!

Cupcakes are sooo pricey, man! They say they require just as much if not more work than a wedding cake. A less expensive option I considered was to buy standard grocery store cupcakes (like Sam's club, who has good cupcakes) or "plain" cupcakes from a bakery (just don't tell them they're for a wedding) and then purchase your own sugared flowers and then just set pretty sugared flowers or sugared berries on top. Comes out to be much much cheaper.

Bellenga, you're hilarious.  I'm a John Krasinski girl myself, and I would absolutely pay $5 to be fed a cupcake by him.  But not so much for our teensy wedding with a teensy budget.  Ejs, that's a really great idea too.  Thanks again, gals.
