Not that i have anything agains them! Nor am i putting anyone down for choosing them….buuuuut….does anyone else feel they have become way over popular? I mean we are having a cake *gasp!* haha and some of our peers where like “isnt that old fashion?” WHAT Ill be 25 im not old! lol Come on now!

Customs change over time. One could easily argue that “cake” has been overly popular for years!

Interesting – when I told everyone I was having cupcakes, the response was like, “what?! your not having cake??” haha!

I would agree that cake is “traditional” …. not old fashion lol….*shrugg* i dont know! I just thought it so weird that doing a cake made us “old”….we have alot of “young/trendy” things too. but really?? having a cake instead of cupcakes or cakepops(YUMMY!!!!) doesnt make us old!!! LOL

plus, they also tend to be cheaper and easier to manage.
a) they’re pre-cut servings
b) less messy
c) better if you have kids!!!!
d) more flavor choices for less cost
e) you don’t have to pay the “wedding” price for cupcakes like you would a cake
f) more for your money (depending on where you go and who you get)
unless someone volunteers to do awesome cupcakes, we’re just gonna go the Sam’s Club/Costco route and buy cupcakes in bulk from there and do it that way. Neither my Fiance or I like the cost of the wedding cakes around where we live and we don’t know any awesome cake chefs (isn’t that what they’re called? 😉 ) to make it.

we are getting a small 6″ tier to cut, but serving ice cream cupcakes for our guests. The only reason we’re doing it is to save money – at $2 pp, it sure as hell beats 2.25, 2.50 and upwards of 3.50 per slice per person.

We are leaning to cupcakes because the cupcakes are cheaper than cake and there is no cake cutting fee….

I had a cake (because I wanted one) AND cake pops and everyone RAVED about the cake pops. I had 3 different flavors and they were so delicious…oh my LORD. I would do that again in a heartbeat.

I love the option of cupcakes since it give you the opportunity to have a few flavors of cake and it saves money, but I think regular cakes are much classier. Also there is nothing wrong with having a different flavor each tier. I am going to go one of those routes.
On the over popular thing, I have only seen them done at two weddings so I wouldn’t be able to judge whether or not they are over popular.

Cupcakes are yummy. Cake is beautiful. Ccan’t go wrong either way.

I am choosing cupcakes based on other factors, not b/c they are considered to be popular. I can not tell you how many weddings we have been to where you see the servers bring around cake to everyone and then come by an hour later and throw multiple pieces of untouched away b/c people were up dancing and socializing and not sitting down. With cupcakes, our guests can just go and pick one when they are ready for dessert. And, boxes will be available if they would rather take it home. With cupcakes, we will be able to offer our guests multiple flavors from which they can choose. Although wedding cakes are beautiful, I am not a huge fan of fondant. Lastly, at our venue the cake is 3.50 pp and I was not impressed w/ the cake when we had at our tasting. Our cupcakes are 2.50 pp so I will actually be saving money.
I think it doesn’t really matter what ppl. choose to do. If I was having a wedding in my own backyard I would prob. set u a huge dessert bar with many desserts to choose from!

I had cake but would have been open to cupcakes as well!

I love cupcakes, but we’re having cake at our reception. I think I am the only person in the world who doesn’t like cakepops. I think they’re adorable, but something about the texture makes me gag.

we are doing cupcakes because i love them!…. and we will be saving the $3.50 cake cutting fee per person at our venue.

Definitely cupcakes. I really wanted more of a dessert table since that’s what we do over the holidays but I’m having our wedding dinner @ a restaurant. I love that I can have multiple flavors and she will do a non-wedding theme for the frosting.Plus I like cupcakes but not cake. I haven’t eaten wedding cake in years.
