hm, I guess it depends on what you mean by “Cheap” As in, what is the normal rate for a cupcake? I’m not sure.

I only know of a few places that sell cupcakes, and I’m not sure if you would consider them inexpensive:

The Cupcake Counter (I believe a dozen here is $33)

Molly’s Cupcakes (dozen for $22)

Another idea is just going to a bakery in general, rather than a cupcake place. My favorite is The Cakery Inc although, I don’t know if they make cupcakes.

Or what about ordering them from Etsy? Like here anasedibles. A dozen large for $20

And finally, is she considering making them herself? That might save $ (not time or stress though!) If she would consider it, look here for cute and fun materials! Layer Cake Shop

Oh! And Molly’s donates some of the proceeds from their sales to area schools! 🙂 Maybe your friends could write a little sign about that in lieu of a favor.

Yes!!! I’m going to Sweet Honey Bee Bakery. The cupcakes are cute and delicious – and only $1.90/cupcake.

For cheap – I would actually recommend going to the grocery store, specifically Jewel. Their bakery section is AMAZING (seriously, best yeast donuts in Chicago) and I am sure they can make a very large order of cupcakes at a lower cost than your average specialty bakery.

I second checking out Jewel.  Their bakery makes some pretty delicious things.

It’s been a while since I’ve been there so prices may have gone up but Sweet Mandy B’s cupcakes are $2 each and really good. Also there are a lot of bakeries that give discounts for big orders.

Also look into bakeries that do mini-cupcakes if that fits into the centerpiece idea.

I made about 150 cupcakes for bridal shower and it really took no time at all.  I have a regular oven too.  So its not impossible.  It was super cheap.  The only issue she would run into would be setting it all up.

You can’t go to one of those fabulous trendy cupcake places if you want cheap.  You’ll have much better luck with a little family owned place on the outskirts of the city or the burbs.  I found a place in Forest Park that charged like 70 cents per cupcake.  I’m sorry, I can’t remember the name right now though 🙁
