I think there was a thread on this recently… with pics and everything...
For flavors I did:
vanilla + strawberry flavored icing
chocolate + dark chocolate icing
chocolate + peanut butter icing
vanilla + chocolate icing
Those sound yummy! I like those flavors. I think it is a good idea to do cupcakes! In some ways it may be easier for the guests to be able to just grab a cupcake and there is no cake cutting!
Our 6 inch top cake is going to be carrot with cream cheese frosting (just for us).
Then for cupcakes we will have:
chocoalte with vanilla frosting
vanilla with vanilla frosting
funfetti with vanilla frosting
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I got a tall tiered cake stand, so there will be the illusion of a wedding cake.
We're getting cupcakes! We ordered a cupcake tree from cupcaketree.com. We are having a small cutting cake for the two of us. Our flavors are: Twixie (chocolate cake, shortbread, and frosting w/caramel like a Twix bar), Chocolate Chip with chocolate ganache and vanilla icing, chocolate with chocolate ganache and chocolate frosting, vanilla with vanilla, and we still have one more flavor to decide. :)
I have no idea what flavors yet, but here are some of my inspiration pics:
We're going to have one semi-tall stand with only a couple of tiers and then a small cake on top for us to cut. Then we're going to put the rest on scattered platters I am DIYing after this Bee's inspiration:

All of these flavors sound so good. I haven't decided what I want still, but it's nice to see what others are doing.
I think cupcakes are fun and if you like them, go for it. I've been to weddings with cupcakes instead of cake and people enjoyed them. It was garden-themed and all the cupcakes were decorated with different flowers made out of icing. Very cute and visually interesting!!
i think cupcakes instead of cake is a great idea! red velvet with cream cheese frosting is always a crowd pleaser!

Ok, so I think we've decided on cupcakes rather than cake for the wedding. Could I see some pictures/inspiration from brides who have done this or are thinking about doing this? And what flavors did you pick for your cake/cupcakes?
