What about the quilted jelly jars? That's what we did-you can find them used at thrift stores, or buy them new at hardware stores or cheap grocery stores. I've even seen them in 3 different sizes-4oz, 8oz, and 12oz. Or see if you can find a punch set with a bunch of cups at your thrift store. :)
That's a possibility, for sure! They make me a little nervous since there's no sort of handle and we will have a few little ones at the reception (only 2-3 of them, though). We're going to see if my grandma still has some of her sister's glassware tomorrow, and if she does, that'll take care of some of it, I think.
Do you think we need to account for three glasses for each person, or will one be enough? What did you guys do?
I bought clear coffee cups from someone off Craigslist-(for coffee) lol.
I bought the jelly jars for water on the tables.
I bought wine glasses from IKEA for less than $1.00 each.
For lemonade, I bought plastic cups that had a similar pattern to the jelly jars at Dollartree. :)
What about vintage punch cups, something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/9-VINTAGE-PRESSED-GLASS-PUNCH-CUPS-/130425227363?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5df30863#ht_500wt_947 or this http://www.etsy.com/listing/52724238/vintage-5-piece-iridescent-glass-punch?ref=sr_gallery_39&ga_search_query=punch+cups&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_page=&order=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title
They're super cute (I think) and cheap, well, relatively anyway. You might ask around to family and such - grandmas and great aunts might have some laying around (I know my grandma does!). I've also seen tons of them at antique and thrift stores.
Edited to add: etsy seems to have lots of milk glass punch cups, too. Maybe you could buy 5/month until your wedding or something? If they're all similar in size, the designs really don't have to match - in fact, I think it would be charming if they didn't!
have you looked on ebay? i was looking for glasses for something completely not wedding related but they had a ton of what i was looking for and inexpensively too.
Milk glass, jadeite, jelly glasses, souvenir glass from gas stations would all look great but they will also be fairly expensive for that number of glasses.
I have used Smarty had a Party several times. Their products are excellent quality.

Those are all super-cute! My great-aunt, I think, has some old glassware we could borrow. I'm in a bit of a pickle, though...I don't want to have them all sitting around after the wedding, lol! Ah, we'll see.
Dang, if you were only closer. I have these gorgeous pink glass & jade glass cups and cake plates from the 40's (were my grandma's). I could've loaned them to you. I think I am going to use these for my wedding (at least for the vip tables). It will be nice to have something from my grandparents there since they both passed away a number of years ago.
where at in iowa are? you i have a ton of punch set (plates with matching cups with the little circle on the plates for the cups) i would be more than happy to lend them to you. they are so cute, i think i have about 50 sets
We're in Dubuque, so a decent distance away from Omaha. Otherwise, I would take you up on the offer!
That's too bad. We are also having a vintage wedding and I hit the thrift stores about once a weed. I am using mismatched champaign glasses, the punch sets, and mismatched china dessert plates. If you get to the area after June 2011, You are more than welcome to the china and champaign glasses. Just IM me.
I can always look when I hit thrift and antique stores for our centerpieces (we're using old tins from the 40s and 50s--so far we have a Strawberry Quik one and a gigantic Saltine cracker one, but they can get pricey so I'm spacing them out). :)
I don't think we'll be going out to Omaha anytime soon, sadly. I appreciate the generous offer, though.
Here's some inexpensive lots of vintage tins on ebay. In the $20-$25 range (including shipping) for multiple tins.

You can always re-sell whatever you get later. Or give it away. I would sell on Craigslist though, personally.. shipping stuff like that is a huge pain unless you are a pro at it (one reason I rarely sold anything breakable when I sold on ebay!)
I say mix it up, get a variety, it will be cute.. and I love jadeite coffee cups. I used to have a few but I still see them often at thrift stores.

We're doing a 40s-vintage theme for our wedding but we're also on a tight budget. Our venue does NOT supply anything more elaborate for drinks than plastic cups, which I hate. (We took care of our flatware and silverware through the caterer for an extra $30, so we're good in that department.)
FH and I love the look of milk glass, but none of the thrift stores around here have milk glass cups--only vases and the occasional cake stand. If anyone knows of a good place online to buy them in bulk for cheap, please let me know! We're having coffee, water, and punch, so the downside to doing milk glass would be, we'd end up with a TON of it (80 people times 3 = 240--yikes).
Also, what else might fit our theme other than milk glass?
