I have only booked a few vendors so far, but none of them would refund our money.
Interesting question. I just looked at several of our contracts, and all so far say non-refundable.
I've only booked our venue, but it's a non-refundable deposit unless they break the contract.
We've paid three deposits, venue, photog, and cake. Well... and dress I guess.
Venue and photog- non-refundable unless they book another wedding at the same date should we cancel (for a feb wedding, i wouldn't count on this)
Dress and Cake- non-refundable ever

I just read Miss Sloth's blog post and it made me think. I know all of our vendor contracts said they would refund the deposit as long as we let them know by a certain date and then it was pro-rated after a certain point. (I just looked at my catering contract and it was a full refund up to a month before.) I guess I'm curious--do most people have contracts where you lose your deposit if you cancel? I remember asking about this point specifically with all vendors and they all would give back the deposit as long as it was within a reasonable time frame.
