For my first marriage, I wore my engagement and wedding rings together throughout the marriage. For this one, we didn't have engagement rings at all. And I know some women (including my mother) take a middle ground--have engagement rings they wear only for special occasions once they get married. I think the important thing is that you and your fiance talk about the issue. If he buys you an expensive ring thinking you will wear it forever, and you never put it on again after the wedding, you may have some resentment.
Not to rain on your parade Forever ladies, but you may HAVE to take it off if you have a baby. Your fingers swell during pregnancy--I'm only 5.5 months and I can't wear my e-ring anymore--and most hospitals require you to remove ALL jewelry before checking in for delivery.
I wore mine about 75% of the time before it got too small. Took it off to sleep/shower, for anything that involved being in water (my mom lost hers on her honeymoon at the beach!), for chores/cleaning, and occasionally when it was just a little more bling than I felt like that day. I do plan to start wearing it again under similar conditions when I'm able to get it back on.
I would actually like to transition to wearing two bands instead of my engagement ring + wedding band. I love the look of it adn I think it's a little more conservative. I migh pull out the big diamond for special events. But the transition will probably take a few years..
I wear mine together all the time. I had them soldered together so I don't have to worry about them rubbing. I am not a 'forever' person because I have had to take them off for surgery and I take them off when cleaning with harsh chemicals, swimming, and working out with metal weights.
I'm wearing them together daily. It's too beautiful not to wear. The wedding band I am getting is intended to stack with the e-ring.
I will wear my engagement ring forever until I decide to pass it down. My fiance specifically got me the ring I have so that we could pass it down to our future children/grandchildren. I had a coworker who only wore her wedding band then wore her engagement ring for special occasions - she said she just wasnt a ring person and didnt like the feeling of having rings on her fingers!
