Is it by an artist who has sold previous work?
Is this artist represented by any galleries?
No it's just a friend of mine. She does this as a side project but has never sold one.
@pec1216: Hmmm... not sure then. Maybe look on Etsy for similar sized paintings and see what they go for?
If it's an established artist - I could see it going for $500-$1000.
Since it's a friend - I'd say $100-$250 - ($250 was my first 'gut' feeling).
@pec1216: I honestly think $100 for 11x14 would be a steal! I'd be inclined to do $200 ... but, let your friend tell you how much! Don't guess for him/her!
@pec1216: btw, is it a red canvas? or is it paint on canvas (the background)
Anything with a high "I could paint that factor" will sell for less unless the person is an established artist. I've seen stuff like that for sale for 50$ at a gallery/restaurant by me. I assume you mean 11"X14", not 11'X14'?
If it was a friend who painted it and she wasn't asking a price, I would probably give her about $150. I'm just thinking if I went to homegoods or a similiar store with discounted paintings I would have to spend at least that.
@pec1216: Wow she's really talented! I'd definitely tell her to look around Etsy and see what other artists are listing their work for.
My dad owns a customer framing gallery and sometimes he will sell local artists paintings in there. i think 100-250 is a good price range.
@oracle: It's red paint on the canvas.
@MrsBroccoli: I was thinking around $50 too. Yes I mean 11"x14"
@roxy821: I'm more than willing to pay whatever she wants but since she didn't set a price I'm trying to gauge it by what others would pay. I know that the cross painting was a huge project on a 24"x36" and we saw one very similar in a store on an 18"x6" and they were asking $98 for it.
$100 or less, but I'm a semi established artist (several shows/publications). I've never priced anything over 2200, which is prob too low anyway, I feel awkward about those kids of thangs.
I guess $100. I have no idea how these kind of things work haha. I like that painting though, and I like the cross.
@PinkMagnolia: Me neither.
It's a pretty small canvas and while it's cute, the technique isn't very polished. I'd say anything over $40 is highway robbery, but that's me.
Yeah I agree with Linguo42, it looks like she didn't spend much time on this piece- and until you are very famous, that kind of thing matters--I usually spend 30-40 hours on a single painting!
Seriously I would pay like 20 bucks, but then again I am one of those people who does not understand why people pay so much money for art that a 10 year old could easily do.
I would porbably do $30-$40 because she's a friend, but not more. Mostly because her technique is all over the place, and the colors in the first painting don't really go well together. But I guess that's artisitc license, lol.
20 bucks maybe. They look like they are done very quickly. There is a ton of good art on etsy, but I would not group this with those. sorry.
The work is nice, but in this economy that kind of art is pretty common and doesn't sell. There are a couple coffee shops in my town that sell local artists' works, very similar to these, and most are priced at $50 or under... and I think they sell about 1 a year because the paintings in the shops are always the same and never come down even though they're for sale. I have a couple really detailed, beautiful paintings of animals at about double that size that were $10 each at a "starving artists" sale in town.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I really appreciate you guys being so honest. So I have a little confession, I'm actually the artist. I feel bad for saying it was a friend but I wanted your honest opinions good or bad and thought you guys may just be nice if I said it was me who was painting these pieces. I've been doing this kind of thing on the side for years and actually won a full ride scholarship out of high school for art but decided to pursue business. The angel painting is my first one to be sold. A friend from high school wanted it and offered to pay me for it. We decided that $35 was a fair price and I started on her's last night. It's colors are based on her bedroom suit. I still have some work to do on it as in layering and a gloss affect I'm trying but it's done other wise. What do you guys think of this one?
Street art in NYC usually starts at around $200 for something that size if it's any good. DH and I bought a painting from an artist who isn't too well known for $450, but it's huge and required several mediums to complete. I thought that was a great deal because I've been to many art galleries and am always blown away by the prices for more well known artists!

I'm trying to see what a fair price would be for a painting of this calibur and size. It's an 11x14 canvas.
