What book are you currently reading?
Right now I'm reading, Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs. It's a good book. It sad though, makes you realize the things we take for granted as women. I practically live at the library! I can read over 10 books a month. I love reading!!
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehene (sp?) which is the basis of the upcoming movie.
@Rosie, that sounds like an interesting read.
@Rosie - I might have to pick that one up - sounds good!
Just started Stiff - it is about cadavers - the history of them and how they are used. (I am doing a PhD in clinical anatomy and teach gross anatomy with cadavers I am not sadistic I promise)
I just finished reading The Glass Castle which is a memoir of a woman's childhood. It is her story of growing up poor. Very good read - I recommend it!
Rosie, that books sounds really good! Have you read the 19th wife? If you're interested in polygamy I'm sure you'll like it. It combines morman history with a modern day fictional mystery.
I just finished Handle with care by Jodi Picoult, it was pretty good maybe a 3 out of 5.
I picked up Practical Magic & At Risk from the library today. Both are by Alice Hoffman.
Andrew Zimmern,
The Bizarre Truth: How I Walked out the Door Mouth First . . . and Came Back Shaking My Head
Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild- one of my favorites from my childhood! The new movie with Emma Watson as Pauline is good too.
The Castle Corona (Sharon Creech), and a pile of books for college: The War Against Grammar, Naming the World, and Telling True Stories are the most interesting ones.
Too many law school textbooks and when I get a chance, wedding magazines. :)
College textbooks are taking over my life again.
But I was about to start The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.
I am without a book right now! I recently finished Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood, a sequel to Oryx and Crake. It was a fantastic read. I need to get to the library soon.
ive been trying to read "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks...but im too impressed. i really loved "the notebook", "the wedding", "dear john", & "the choice." but this one is not grabbing my attention.
i recently finished "Notes Left Behind." It was incredibly sad!! It's a true story and it really touches your heart. Definitely taught me not to take the people i love for granted!
Tom Sawyer, The Chicago Manual of Style, and Patents, Copyrights, and Trademarks for Dummies.
Yeah, I'm weird.
Im re-reading The Lovely Bones so that I can be refreshed for the movie!!
re-reading The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. One of my fav. books ever.
i'm reading journal articles about TGF-beta. Fun times! If I wasn't in school I'd probably read for fun a lot more. Actually, I don't do any reading for fun right now. Can't wait till I have a normal life and a normal job someday.
I'm reading "Cleaving" by Julie Powell (author of Julie & Julia). Not as awesome and funny as Julie & Julia, but it drew me in and kept me interested. It's about Julie Powell's venture into learning how to be a butcher, and coming to terms about her marriage and her affair.
@gidgett - that series was one of my favorites growing up - when did the movie come out? I didn't even know there was one!
I'm reading the Red Tent by Anita Diamant - biblical historical fiction
@MsMonicka absolutely LOVE those books! My fiance proposed using Edward's words to Bella from Eclipse.
I just started Outlander. A friend of mine recommended it
Mrs Danish seriously? what line!! what a great proposal.
Im reading John Grisham The Broker - i took it off my FH. And Also ready 'Chasing Harry Winston' by Lauren Weisberger. Really funny!
OoOoO... I LOVE posts like these. As my hubs says, I hoard books so I like buying and reading new ones.
Currently, I am reading Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. Hoping to finish before seeing the movie.
I am currently reading 3 books. Crazy, I know.
They are:
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes
I'm reading Philippa Gregory's Tudor-era series. I finished The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance, and I'm about to start The Queen's Fool. I also just picked up The Keep by Jennifer Egan at the library the other day.
The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb
Before that, I just finished Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia and next up is The Art of Racing in the Rain.
@xxRosiexx: If you like that book, check out Escape by Carolyn Jessop.
I'm putting Under the Banner of Heaven on my list for my next Amazon order.
I am without a good book right now. I'm liking this thread for the recommendations!
Just finished Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay and am currently reading some fun fluff - Twenties Girl by Sophia Kinsella. I also have a pile of other books from the library that I have to get through. :)
I am currently reading The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. The movie for it that came out this past summer didn't look great, but it's a really good read so far.
hotchildinthecity I've read that book and found it to be good.
Wizards first Rule by Terry Goodkind (hubby is watching the TV series "Legend of the Seeker" and wanted me to get caught up on what's going on). I also just finished re-reading all the "Princess Diaries" books by Meg Cabot, because sometimes it's nice to be reminded that I'm not the most paranoid person on the planet.
@Olive- I'm reading The Help as well and I LOVE it. I have been staying up too late because I can't put it down! I highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a good read. :)
I'm reading the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. I'm on 'Eleven on Top' now.
@zipplef--I love The Joy Luck Club--definitely one of my favorite books.
@sage--I read Philippa Gregory's Tudor books, too. I thought they were pretty good.
Currently, I'm reading In a Perfect World by Laura Kasischke. I just finished reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and right before that I read Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies thrown in there between the two (good book but I definitely prefer the original without the zombies).
After In a Perfect World, I plan on reading The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf.
@Future Mrs. Martin: Stiff is one of my favorite books! I read it a few years ago after I took an anatomy class.ON a funny note... My mom used to get phone calls home from my teachers in elementary school because I told them I wanted to be a medical examiner when I grew up! She thought that it was normal, the teachers thought it was strange
I am currently just reading textbooks, but plan on participating in the WB online book club!
@Dragonsus- I love the first 3 or 4 books in the Sword of truth series, but they go downhill pretty fast after that. I didn't even bother to read the last 2-3.
