@momolove:  I made my curtains from $3 worth of sheets from a thrift store. I am happy with them. They were relatively easy to make. Do you have a sewing machine? If not, why not try to find some local women who know how to sew and get some price quotes? You could order the fabric from a wholesaler on the internet.

We just moved into our brand new house and there’s a LOT of windows. I believe there’s 16 windows. Each window holds 2 panels. 32 panels total. We went to target. They are pretty reasonable ($30-$40 each panel). And they’re cute.. I’ll see if I can find a pic on my phone. I wanted to do custom blinds on all windows, but the windows are super big so it would have been $10k+. I love how it pulled the entire room together.

We went custom, but we found a local seamstress who did them cheap. If you are interested in custom, I’d ask around and find someone independent. The big stores were quoting us easily 4 times what she was

Curtain panels are super easy to sew.  I taught myself how to do it and am now on my second house for which I’ve made my own curtains, lined and everything.   If you can measure, cut, pin and sew in a semi-straight line, you can do it.  Here are the curtains in my bedroom. Please excuse the random box in the middle of the room!

CUrtains are super easy to sew and if you’re not in the mood for that any seamstress would be able to do them cheap.  They’re basically just strait stitches on all sides.  I always buy the fabric myself at a whole sale fabric place and have the panels sew cheaply.

We don’t have shades or blinds on all our windows because not all of them need blinds/shades. However all the ones we do have we got at selectblinds.com.  we thought their prices were very reasonable and they run all sort of discounts and promotions.  they have a large variety of materials and all the measurements are custom.

My grandmother made ours for us! The fabric was around $13 per yard and she used around 11 yards. We love them! I haven’t taken pictures of our bedroom curtains yet. I’ll have to update later.

Note: These pictures were right after we finished building, so our blinds weren’t installed yet and the mantle wasn’t decorated yet. Sorry!
