Hey Ladies! So I’m picking out my ring, I’m getting a moissy and super excited! My only problem is I can’t decide between a princess cut stone or a cushion cut stone. I was wondering which stone would look larger if they are the same carat weight. I have heard that cushion cuts look smaller than most cuts and that the corners on a princess cut looks smaller because the weight goes to the corners
Any thoughts or advice would be great!

@marinewifetobe: I just did a quick comparison on a 1 carat princess and a 1 carat cushion for reference on BlueNile.com
The measurements for a 1 carat princess are approximately 5.40×5.40
And for the cushion they are approximately 5.70×5.70
So they are almost exact and you won’t be able to tell the difference with the naked eye
They actually both appear small compared to diamonds of other shapes.. so I vote Same

Cushions face up a little smaller than princess cuts generally, so maybe it a little larger if you get a cushion than you would a princess. 🙂

I don’t think that there would be a great visual difference between the two.
Plus, with diamonds, it depends a lot on the cut. You can have a well cut diamond face up slightly smaller than a poorly cut diamond of the same weight if the poor cut stone is shallower.
I’m not sure about moissanite since I don’t own one or haven’t researched them extensively, so I don’t know much about their cut. It seems like some vendors sell them based on size (ie 6mm X 6mm, etc)?
I would also take other factors into consideration like setting, for example. Some settings may accomodate a princess better than a cushion and vice versa.
Also, I have heard some girls on the bee say that round and cushion moissanite stones sparkle most, but again, I can’t attest to that either. Sorry!
You may want to see both and compare before making any decisions. Could you order both and return the one you don’t want?

@marinewifetobe: A moissanite cushion cut stone will more resemble a diamond than a princess cut would, IF that matters to you!

@Dell79: thats really good to know! I don’t think I would really care if it looked like a diamond though. I think moissy is amazing so I would tell anyone who wanted to know that it was a moissy!
