Honestly, it depends on the individual stone. Cushion cuts are very unique in that they have a wide range of shapes. Some are cut to face up larger (i.e. they aren’t as tall) and some are much deeper, causing them to appear smaller. In addition, some are very square-looking while others are much more rectangular (which makes them appear larger). I think in general, a 2.5 ct cushion will face up around the same size as a 2 ct round.

i don’t know very much about the difference in the sizes but cushion cuts are my favorite!

I agree with @Mrs. Fireworks only because I had the same question when we were looking and we ended up going with a 2.01 round because when comparing it to a face up cushion of the same size the round looked bigger. I still love the cushion look so we then put the round diamond in a cushion halo.

I have a 1.5 cushion and it faces up about the same as a 1.25 round, so I would imagine the 2.5 cushion will look a hair bigger than a 2.0 round.

When looking, look at mm sizes of the stones.  Sometimes cushion cuts can spread 63-64% depth, so NOT ALL stones are really heavy.

Mine is heavy, but because its a north to south look being a little rectangular, its going to show one side as large as a round, the other sides smaller.  but in the mounting all people see is a beautiful ring my Fiance made for me.

Here is a picture of a 2 carat round vs a 2 carat cushion. Can you really tell much of a difference? they look abut the same to me!
