SO bought the stone online, and then found a jeweler online (not the same company) that would do exactly I wanted (a Verriago halo replica) for 1/3 of the price.

I think it depends though, the good thing about our jeweler that we went with is although he is based in L.A (we’re in Canada), even with shipping, taxes, duty fees and all, it was a lot cheaper than any jeweler here in the city even.  He set my stone for free too.  As he’s a small family owned company, they don’t have a retail store, therefore costs of that are cut, and passed on to consumers.

I have no idea if online is cheaper or not but if you are picky about fine details like me, you’ll want a local artist so you can work with them at every step of the process and correct any mistakes as soon as they arise.

@prettyinpink11:  We chose to go with Sage Designs, after I saw another bee’s ring here (she had gone with him too).  I don’t have the ring yet (still waiting on SO to propose!) but from what I do know from photos, it’s gorgeous, and the jeweler SO is working with is absolutely fantastic.

Replies to emails and calls right away.  He even offered to ship the ring for free if SO sent him the stone. The only negative I can think of is what PP said, in that if you’re very picky about little details (although I would say I am), it may be harder to fix something right away.

@prettyinpink11:  IMO there’s no real answer we can give you other than to say that you need to shop around for the best prices and fees associated with what you want.  Most of the time online is cheaper because they have less over head costs.  Good luck!
