Is anybody getting one? The dress I've fallen in love with is Oleg Cassini CT291, but at $1150 it's way out of my price range, so I've been considering getting one custom-made to be similar. I guess my question is, has anyone gotten or seriously looked into getting a custom dress? If so, where from?

I bought a A-line dress on clearance at DB and my aunt, who is a seamstress, is going to do all the alterations to customize it to a sheath style. She promises me it will be beautiful like a 10k dress. She's doing all of the alterations for free and she paid for half of my wedding dress. I'm so blessed. I'm so happy for you will it cost less to for someone to customize it for you?

If I buy the same style from a custom-made shop it would cost about $350-500, but I just don't know of any that I can honestly trust and was hoping that somebody had gone this route previously. Most "used" dresses of this style go for about $500-700 or more and most of those are much too small for me as I wear 16-20 depending on the dress.

Im sure u can find a sabelle thread and pm her and ask her about her custom made dress. Hope this helps some..

i honestly think getting something custom made will be more expensive than that dress.  especially one with such a full gathered skirt, that's alot of fabric and construction.  i'm a fashion designer so i have an idea of what goes into these things.  i'm sure you can find something similar for less, it's a pretty common silhouette, did you try looking?  the idea of looking at used dresses is a good one too, check out oncewed.com they have tons of used dress listings!  here's a link to all the oleg casini's posted on there (you can search by designer), but search thru them all as well, you might find one from a differnt designer that is similar.  http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/oleg-cassini/ good luck :)

EDIT: here it is!  are you a size 4?  remember wedding dress sizes are way different than regular clothing sizes... did they measure you at the store to find out your size?  they're asking $800, but might be willing to bargain http://www.oncewed.com/25685/used-wedding-dresses/oleg-cassini/size-4/ct291/?currentPage=1

Actually gals, that's the problem. All of the dresses I've found and you've found are too small for me. I'm willing to go with a different dress in the same general style, but I thought that if I could get a very similar dress custom-made for fairly inexpensive then it would be a win-win. I've also been checking out etsy for some dress makers to see if I could order a nice dress from there and actually found a few, but not many unfortunately.

aw ok, i tried to help!  i hope you find something you like :)  just try to find good seamstresses in your area (a nice bridal boutique will have a list of contacts) and contact a few with a photo of the dress to get an estimate.  good luck!

I don't know about the custom made thing, I would look and see if there is a less expensive version of the dress by another designer and stalk the preowned and maybe put a "looking for" out there. Good luck!!
