@couldntbeehappier:  I am in the process of getting my e-ring made, which is all moissanite and rose gold. We got a 1ct(6.5mm) round stone which costs us $400 along with 10 smaller stones to taper down the side of the band. The total amount we spent on the stones was $500- not bad! After all is said and done- custom ring and all it’ll cost a grand total of $1300! WOO-HOO! I’m not sure the size of the center stone, it all depends on the band dimensions, but if you bring the picture into a jeweler and start designing a ring, the goldsmith should be able to get the dimensions of what you want and help decide on a center stone size. We did not order our moissanite online, as our jeweler has a rep he goes through. I’ve posted pics below of what the ring will look like in the end, along with a pic of the center stone, and the tapering stones. Custom is the way to go! Good luck!

the price for the white gold (or platinum) plus the craftsmanship/labor can make it a little more expensive than you might think. I once asked for a price quote to have a white sapphire / white gold eternity band made. the little 2mm white sapphires as loose stones were probably just as inexpensive as small moissanites. plus I could tell that the setting could be ordered prefab (so, not even a custom design). yet still, they quoted me $1,200 for that ring! and it was just a wedding band, not an engagement ring. this was over 3 years ago, the price of gold has gone up since then.

however, as far as engagement rings go, your customized moissanite ring would still probably cost way less than the diamond equivalent. it doesn’t hurt to get a price quote.

@couldntbeehappier:  an emerald cut stone is not available. Amora gem will have step cuts but is still under patent restrictions. Perhaps you could do white topaz or sapphire in emerald cut?

I’m also in the process of getting my new custom replica ering made, the center stone we chose is a 6mm (over 1/2 ct, under 1 ct) FB moissy with .25ct of side diamonds, 14k white gold and I’m anxious to see pictures of it. Our total will be $2000 for the ring and stones, the center stone in the OP looks to be over 2 carats.

This is what our shank will look like but with a custom center stone setting, the original below is close to $3000 without the stone:

I’d guess that center stone’s somewhere around 1.5-2 carat range.

Unfortunately you only have two options for your center stone if you’re sold on moissanite: either Amora Gem emerald cut (which isn’t available yet and will have to be ordered via mail forwarding service if you’re in a patent blocked country) or a Radiant cut (which will look different but have the same elongated shape).  Right now moissanite isn’t sold in Emerald Cuts.

For a moissanite vendor, if I wanted something custom made I’d go with Schubach’s, as I’ve never heard a bad review from them, they seem to really shine when it comes to custom work, and they are known for picking good looking moissies.

One thing to be aware of is even if you’re going the moissy route, with the shape you’re looking at, and a custom ring around that size, it still won’t be cheap.  With custom you’re paying a bit more for labor, design, etc.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more than $2000.  If you can find a stock setting that’s similar, a vendor can order it for you and set the stone of your choice, that will probably save you some money.

Here’s a ring similar to what you’re looking for:

@couldntbeehappier:  keep us posted. it’s a really pretty design!

I can’t imagine that the price of making an engagement ring could be all that different from the price of making a wedding band. they both probably require roughly the same amount of labor and gold.

@couldntbeehappier:  Other people have already broken the bad news about emerald cut moissanite not currently being an option, but if you still decide to get a custom moissy, I’d like to throw in a recommendation for Rosado’s Box on etsy. They designed and shipped my custom moissanite ring and wedding band in 6 business days- we ordered it on a Monday and it arrived on Wednesday of the following week. Shirley, the owner, was extremely easy to work with, communicated clearly, and the product wildly exceeded my expectations.

My size 5.25 white gold ering with a 6.5 mm cusion cut moissanite and white gold engraved wedding band together were ~$1500. What I wanted was close enough to an existing design that I didn’t need her to do a CAD mockup, but I know they’re capable of that for more specialized orders. And they use all recycled gold, recycled packaging, and ethically sourced stones for all their jewelry. I would enthusiastically recommend them.

You’ll pay through the nose for a custom ring. If you can find a semi-mount that already exists, and put a moissanite in it, it will be a lot less of a ($$$) headache. Email the customer service reps from that company and ask to purchase the semi-mount, then have any stone set in it.
