Has anyone out there tried using one of these sites? Their prices seem too good to be true but I am very tempted. ( even with the shipping fees) For $200 they advertise the DESIGNER look of your dreams customized. If you read their customer approval ratings they are also amazing. Though about goin gto the wedding salon and tryin gon the dress first to make sure it was the one I wanted and then ordering for the much cheapier price as I am a DYI bride with a second marriage on a strict budget.
I read about it in Bridal Bargains (BEST BOOK EVER!), and totally think it's a great idea. The only reason I didn't do it is there's not enough time for me. It's been discussed before here, and here. If you can find exactly what you want, I'd say go for it!
I am thinking of doing this also. As a safety net, I'll order the dress with enough time for alterations here, but I want a custom colored dress, so this seems to be my best route. Let me know what you end up doing!
I think it sounds like an incredible deal, I'm just too chicken to try it. Best of luck!
My mom actually mentioned this to me, but I'm too afraid to do it!!!!!!!!!
I definitely am too chicken to chance my dream dress on somebody making it off the internet.
I'm going to order my dream dress from a site after I go try a bunch on to make sure that I look good in what I think my dream dress is - I don't want to get a big princess dress and look like a big fat white poof ball! I figure I'm going to get it for $200 with shipping and everything and PRAY that it works - I'll order it a bit larger then it should be and have it altered to fit - if it doesn't work then I'll get the fall back David's Bridal $99 dress and try not to cry. Everyone I've talked to says that they know someone who has done this and been happy so here's to taking a deep breath and diving in.
If you end up doing it - let us know so we can pass it along - it will be good news I'm sure!
Hey - what site are you looking at?
I'm looking at www.weddingo.net
I did it! Augusta Jones Isola. I found Jeff Liu on ebay - and was very happy with the process. But... I gave myself loads of time. I recieved the dress with 6 months to go until the wedding. Still enough time to get something else sorted in case it all went belly up. I posted a detailed thread/review on my experience a wee bit ago.
Me too! I literally just sent in my measurements and bought the dress TODAY! I am so excited and nervous- one month and Ill post my experiences- I've been waiting to buy this dress from CHina since last year- with 5 months to go, i just had to suck it up.
my friend did it and it turned out AMAZING! but I am afraid to do it as well, I am going to a custom dress maker here in the states though it is about 1000 but waaay less than 10G
So I did it. DISASTER. I only chanced it because this was actually going to be my second dress, a shorter dress to wear to the reception. I was prepared for the dress to not be exactly what I wanted, but its beyond help. The materials were cheap, and instead of using crystals on the belt like I had asked for (and had been told repeatedly it would have) it has this cheap lace band with silver sequins. AND it didnt fit, not even CLOSE, despite giving exact measurements. I used jeff liu on ebay btw, and he has lots of great feedback. Perhaps I am pickier than other brides? Anyway, if anyone is truly interested I will take pictures of it before I send it back so you can see. Hopefully, I get the refund like he has stated in his policies.
a client did it and it arrived about 16 inches too short and they never resent her a new dress.
I just put in an order with Jeff Liu. He seems really professional and extremely quick to respond to any questions. He is also trying to complete my order very quickly in time for my wedding date. I didn't cosider the Chinese New Year so of course I didn't realize that it would be so far behind schedule.
Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with my dress and that the arrival time is quick.
My friend did the same thing and she received a dress that was asymmetrical in length, the color was too dark, and wrong size. She had to spent $250 more to get it fixed.
I am getting married soon and I was looking for less expensive dresses and I've found this site www.omgbride.com that sells wedding dresses for a lot less than retail price and dresses ship from US. Not too many sizes in stock but it's worth trying.
I just put in an order with Jeff Lui. So far, so good with the communication- I'm crossing my fingers! Will follow up with a review post, but here's the dress I'm having him replicate. Maggie Sottero RD1044, I paid $169 including shipping:

I did! And it was the best choice I could have made!
The entire experience was fantastic... not only did I get the dress custom made to my size... I also was able to customize the dress (the top of one, bottom of another, and then I completely changed the fabric). They even called me TWICE because their seamstress thought adding some details would look good on the gown. From the purchase date & with shipping... I think it was like 18 business days to get my dress. So I definitely say go for it! Message me if you have any questions for me!
The first picture is the dress right out of the box & the second is at our wedding :)

I am so happy with Dressilyme. It looks even better in person. It has 4 layers of fabric and an excellent weight to it, fully lined with a built in bra.
Disregard what I said about the Jeff Liu/Aprils bridal dress a month ago it was horrible.
I ordered from china. I ordered first dress from udreamybridal.com don't do it. they suck. They don't know how to communicate. Their only redeeming quality is that they gave me my money back.
my second dress was ordered from lucy bridal off of alibaba.com they were great. be SPECIFIC about what you want and don't want. Visuals or pictures work best. Take a pic of the dress you want and mark it up, scan it sendit to them. pick a style that they already offer so they dont have to make it from scratch.
If you want it in time for your wedding, you will have to tell them your wedding is like 2 months in advance and lie to them and then bug them to get it on time.
get good measurements by a professional who knows how to measure don't try to do it yourself and expect you will have to get it altered no matter how good they are (especially if you are an odd shape like me)
If you go into it expecting this, you will have a good experience.
@rachgirl82: Oh hun I hope it turns out, there have been quite a lot of negative reviews on here recently about him. Let me know,
Have a look at this post

@simpleandchic: Thank you, me too! I'll be sure to post my experience whether good or bad... that link was the first post I opened this morning :(
i am awaiting my dress right now, i got it from dream_dress, and it is a £1,200 Demetrios dress which they are charging me £165 with free p/p.
i have changed the colour of the dress and also the fastenings, the original dress is button and zip closure, and i have requested a corset lace up back. it is a 2 peice.
i will give a write up of my experience with this company once i receive my dress......
Ok I am also on a budget & I spent months reading reviews for the Chinese websites and decided it was worth the gamble given all the positive feedback. I ordered 2 junior bridesmaid dresses from (LITB) and they were very cheap, I ordered standard sizes after measuring my bridesmaids. When they arrived the fabric, colour and stitching was all good but they did not fit both being too small, the customer sevice was exellent and even though it takes a bit of time they have agreed that the dresses can be returned and they will refund me. I did have to pay import tax on these dresses and postage to return them so i have lost money but I would still reccomend them.
I also ordered my wedding dress from wellbridal. Throughout the ordering process they were exellent & responded to emails within minutes every time. The dress I ordered was over £200 and I got measured by a proffesional so I was confident it would fit, wellbridal also told me that I would recieve a full refund if it did not fit even if it was custom made so I was not at all worried. Unfortuantly when the dress arrived it was too small, it was badly made and misshappen around the bust area, the lace they used had pulled in several places and it was way too long, I ordered a tea length. When I explained this they replyed by saying I should get it fixed with my seamtress & they have not responded to anymore of my emails requesting a refund. £200 is a lot of money to lose, be very careful if you do decide on a chinese website and be prepared for dissapointment.
Good luck
i am sorry to hear of your bad experience, i am myself waiting for a dress....been fobbed off a few times with different times of when it will be done.
well they have sent pics and i am happy with the likeness they have made....
this is the original....i asked for champagne gold instead of ivory like on the original

this is my chinese replica front/back views

i am happy with the results so far, i just hope when it comes its as nice as it looks and it fits nicely.
@anne B: I've already commented in another thread, but I'm so pleased your dress turned out so pretty! I hope you'll post photos of it on you when it arrives, it's the most unique dress I've ever seen replicated so beautifully :) Congrats again!! So happy for you after all that miserable waiting!
thank you so much Rachgirl.... thats really sweet of you.
i like things out of the norm.....i am thinking of adding a coloured underskirt, lilac maybe. depends on the bridesmaids colours.
it looks like i may have to add another layer or two of tulle as its fairly sheer, but i can do that easy enough. i am also adding swarovski crystals into the centres of the flowers only...and at each pick up at the back. well i will see what it looks like. its not the right style for a lot of bling, but would like something to just catch the sunlight, as its a beach wedding so liable to be bright outside.
@anne B: Ohhh, what color underskirt/BM dresses are you leaning towards? Something rich like a deep royal purple or blue would be STUNNING IMO. I really envy your talents, it must be great to know you can make your own alterations and minor adjustments:) Not sure if you've already seen it, but my dress also has a flower strap & I fully intend to alter/replace the flowers if they are not to my liking. I'm not super confident in what I can do though, so I'll try to have Dressilyme do the best they can before it's sent, lol. The designer original has beading on the flowers, but I'm not so sure I'll love the replica version (i plan to ask for NO rinestones when I place the order w/ Dressilyme), we'll see. Any suggestions/advice? Pictures:

Edit: Just reread your post, a lilac underskirt would be BEAUTIFUL!!
wow thst dress is beyond amazing. its so slinky and figure hugging, not the right style for me as i have got too much figure to hug!
yeah i am leaning towards purple/lilac.....
but thought that if i went deep purple you might see it through the dress so i thought about going lighter. my BMs will be wearing multi....
purple, lilac, yellow and the 4th colour we havent decided on yet, possibly a dark peachy colour. looking for a mixture for a beach wedding .
or maybe just different shades of purple.
i'll make my own underskirt, so if i decide on a coloured one, i wont dye a white one, i'll just make it in the right colour.
@anne B: Beach wedding here as well :) Multiple purple shades would look beautiful !
i love my dress. I don't have pics of me in it yet (5 days to go) but here is what I sent them and what I got was VERY similar. $150
I think your dress is gorgeous. i am sure they will do it well for you. You can specify that in your order form. No rhinestones or crystals.
