I think it would be cool to have a name necklace. I was thinking about doing that too but his last name is 12 letters long so I decided against it. lol
as long as it's very dainty, it should be find with that dress. what a cool last name!
To me, name necklaces seem a little too casual when matched with that dress. How would you add pearls and crystals to that?
I think pearls would be lovely. Name necklaces always feel a lot more casual/Carrie Bradshaw, the early years.
@GoldfishPie: I know how to make beaded jewelry. You basically take a pearl or crystal bead and make it a connector, cut the chain, and then use the connector to reattach the chain.
Here's a picture to give you an idea of what I'm talking about:

Obviously, mine would look however I wanted it to as far as spacing, amount of pearls, etc. but that's just to give you an idea of what I mean.
I think it's cute, although it's probably not for everyone. My Bridesmaids wore silver ones with their names on it that I gave them as gifts. They were pretty inexpensive and they really liked them (plus it was a gift that some of them actually wore latter on). The wired ones are cool, but I got the more traditional 'Carrie' style ones from this site that sells name necklaces.
They have plenty of styles to choose from and you can get them in Silver, Gold Plated, or 14K gold.
Good luck with whatever you choose, congratulations, and of course amour!

So, long story short, I have been going round and round about what kind of jewelry to wear with my dress. I know many people (including my consultant at the salon) are of the opinion that beaded bodice = no necklace. I don't know why, but this doesn't sit right with me. I feel like, for me at least, strapless + updo = some sort of necklace, or else I feel like my upper body is naked.
See that? Poor, sad, nekkid neck. :(
So, anyway, I was hunting for ideas, and never really found one to love. Do I go with silver or gold? Pearls or crystals? Statement or dainty pendant? Who knows? Not me, that's who.
Then I recalled coming across this lovely picture, where the bride features her new last name as a hair pin. This got me thinking.
Now, at the risk of giving away FI's identity, I have to brag a little... FI has the best last name. Amore. Yes, Ladies.... my FI's last name is Love, Italian-style.
So, how perfect would it be to have a custom name necklace that says "Amore"? I have seen "Love" necklaces, why not one in Italian, that just happens to also be my new last name?
Enter Etsy. I found a wonderful seller who made reasonably affordable name necklaces in a style I like. I ordered it in silver and gold- I figure that, even if I nix the idea for the wedding, I can still wear them after the wedding, just because.
(obviously not my name.... but just so you get the idea of what they look like).... Oh, source here.
I have yet to try either on with my dress, but I do have them now, and they are very pretty and dainty, and I think I could be happy leaving them plain, but I could easily add to them by adding pearls, crystals, etc.
So, what say you, bees? Would you wear a custom name necklace on your wedding day, or stick to the more traditional bridal jewelry?
