My girlfriend and I are looking for a ring, and we’ve basically settled on a vintage style with plenty of filligree and a center stone between .8 and 1.5 carats. We’re sort of size agnostic…
I was recommended to post here in the hopes of finding a custom jeweler in NYC/5 boroughs/NJ who can help me make something like the two rings below.
We sort of want the basket for the stone itself from the second, but the filligree from the first.

Try Aires Jewelers in Morris Plains, NJ.
They do quite a bit of custom work and everything in their show room is beautiful. They are making our wedding rings. Check them out.

Bruce Fabrikant is fabulous! He’s at 1 West 47th Street. He did my engagement ring, and he’s also making my wedding band.

Little King! On 9th Street betw. 1st and 2nd Aves. They are so fun and nice and they do everything, especially antique-style rings. We did basically the same thing as you – we saw a ring there that we liked, but wanted some things modified. They did an awesome job and now they’re making my wedding band. They’re also very reasonably priced. I’m actually really sad for my band to be done because I won’t get to hang out with them anymore! The only thing is that they are a very small (and busy) shop so they need a little more time to get things done.
PM me if you want to see a pic of my ring (it’s also vintage-inspired).

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with Little King. We asked them to draw some designs and they told us they would get back to us within the week, which became two weeks, three weeks, and then a month. I understand having things take more time, but it’s another thing when a due date is specified and then ignored. Obviously, its just my personal experience, but do be careful.

I used Little King for my engagment ring as well. I actually LOVE Michael and Jen. They’ve become very good friends and from the sounds of it would be perfect to design what you’re talking about. The problem is they do take a very LONG time to get things done. Michael works on each individual piece and I think they may have outgrown their capacity.
You can PM for photos of my ring as well.

My FI and I worked with Mark at EngagementRingsDirect.com, and he did a great job. I think the long turnarouned times must be an industry standard, though, because he also took 3 months when he originally said 3 weeks. He also has beautiful diamonds, too, if you haven’t picked one out yet! And GREAT prices. PM me if you want pictures. Good luck!

I love the rings at anitqueengagementrings.com. The store is located in NYC. If you haven’t checked them out already, you definitely should. I think the rings are exactly the style you are going for. They’re not custom, but perhaps you can find what you’re looking for anyway 🙂

doyle and doyle makes some new rings too, since you like their estate rings, it may be worth it to ask if they can put together a similar new ring for you.

I would go ask the knowledgeable folks at pricescope.com! They swear by engagementringsdirect.com, along with a few others, though. I’ve heard a lot of really good things about them, and they are very reasonably priced!
