Hey ladies!

I'm getting married next May and I would like to have ao dais custom made for me and my 4 BMs in VA/DC.  So far, I've had an ao dai made by a lady that lives in Falls Church but the fit was awful!!  I had to spend another $40 (on top of the $80 she charged me) to have it fixed.  When I demanded that the fit wasn't correct, her response was, "That's the way I sew them."  I'm not even going to bother going to Eden b/c I've heard they tried to charge some people nearly $500!!  And I've heard some horror stories about ordering online.  Any suggestions for local ao dai makers?

my mom is insisting we go to vietnam to get the wedding outfits made.  so we're (my caucasian FI and i) doing a "pre-moon" with her to make sure we what we want and then travel around.  not sure when we're going, aiming for october wedding, but if we leave by april/march, i'll offer to get yours done and mail to you when we get back?

Update to my original post - I ended up ordering from AoDaiVinh.com.  We decided to take a risk and order 2 different Bride ao dais and 2 BM ao dais.  I'm actually very happy w/ the way they turned out!  The fit is surprisingly perfect!  It's like I was there to be measured by them!  We had some words w/ one of their customer reps b/c the flowers they used on one of the BM ao dai was black and didn't look black in their online picture.  In the end, they agreed to fix it, but we had to pay the extra money to have it shipped back. 

To be on the safe side, I would recommend emailing them any/all questions you have.  It never hurts to ask and they are pretty prompt w/ responses.  They're actually very accommodating and even took some close up photos of some of the fabrics for me.  They also will make changes to the sleeve, flowers, collar, and color of each ao dai so you can reference one ao dai online and then make it all your own.  Also, I think if you're not willing to risk it, order the ao dais in the satin silk.  It's very soft and will hug your figure very nicely.

Nancyt81 - Thanks so much...that's so sweet of you to offer!  But if you can't take that trip, you may want to try them out.  Or it might even be cheaper to go to TX or CA to have ao dais made.  I know they have lots of people and variety.  I was going to do that if ordering online didn't work out.
