The seamstress who made my dress just found a pattern similar to what I wanted to get those kinds of numbers. That's probably the easiest way. Good luck!
My mom is making my wedding dress and the pattern that I picked out calls for 12 yards of fabric. It's a strapless A-line and the train in the pattern is not too long. I actually want my train longer so we are buying more fabric to make the train the length that I want it. I agree that it is probably best to find a pattern that is similar to the dress you want and see how much fabric is needed for that dress.
if you are ordering your fabric i found a portland oregon store that is amazing. the prices rock ($6 a yard for satin) and there is no sales tax, pm me if you would like the info!

Does anybody know how many yards of Satin I need to make a simple, strapless, mermaid style dress with a short train? I know exactly what my dress needs to look like, but I don't know how much fabric I need. No embroidery, no detailing, just a plain satin mermaid dress. I truly appreciate if anyone could help. Have a wonderful day.
