@chittychittybanebane: I was thinking of going that route. I was afraid that they wouldn't look great w/ a maxi dress. But, I guess I could just wear something else! :)
FYI - the weather in SF is VERY bipolar. Bring sweaters too. It can be 80 and beautiful, and once the fog rolls in, it is super cold. I would count on it being more like 60-65 each day, but do bring shorts in case there is a nice day.
and I second TOMs :)
I got a lot of great suggestions on this thread awhile back: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/spin-off-super-comfy-non-sneakers
I ended up with a pair of the sperry top siders and I LOVE them - I asked for another pair for my birthday. :) They're a little pricier (around $70/pair) but I wear them to work and hanging out and can walk in them better than almost any non-sneaker shoe. They might not work so well with a maxi dress, but some of the other suggestions would.
And I second @napabridekelsey: on the weather. There can be really wild swings from the sun to the shade and from day to night, so make sure you're prepared with layers. Also, if you're going to be headed to other places in the area, like wine country, the temperature can vary a LOT. It can be sweatshirt weather in San Francisco and sweating in shorts and a t-shirt just a short drive away.
@Entangled: I have a pair of Sperry's and for some reason they're not that comfy to me after a lot of walking. I think it's b/c I have the world's lowest arch. Thanks to you and @napabridekelsey: I"ll definitely pack lots of layers! Thanks for the tip! :)
I third TOMs, I think you'll find they can be really versatile, especially if you get black ones. Plus, you get to help out someone less fotunate with each pair.
@Candy_Nee: Ah - I have the world's highest arch. Seriously, I do not wear shoes. They just kind of dangle off my foot waiting to fall off mid-step. I would suggest you try the Jessica Simpson flats that bakerella suggested in my post and some other bees seconded. I ordered them from zappos and they looked great, but there was no way my foot wasn't going to pop right out.

My hubby and I are going to San Francisco in September for my birthday! I know we'll be doing a ton of walking, so I'm going to need some comfy shoes. I read that the average high is in the low to mid 70's that time of year, so I could wear jeans, a maxi dress, or even sorts. So, I'll need something that will be able to go with all of those. I know I could just wear my regular old tennis shoes, but I'd like something a little more stylish. I've heard that Tory Burch flats are the most comfy flat shoe, but they're way out of my price range!
Any other suggestions?!
