I get called hot, beautiful, sexy, gorgeous and the dreaded cute, but I don't mind cute sometimes things are just cute.
As one of my friends in his 40s with a wife and 2 teenage kids told me a few years ago: "'hot' is a one-night stand, you marry 'cute'". So I don't think being cute is a bad thing, especially in a guy's eyes.
My fiance will usually call me "pretty", sometimes "beautiful" or "sexy". I personally classify myself more under "girl-next-door cute".
Mine usually defaults to "gorgeous" or "sexy" or "so beautiful". Lol, but then again, you could say he knows how to keep a gal pleased. ;) Other people, I guess they'd say hot or pretty, just out and about sort of thing,
There's nothing wrong with cute or cute-pretty! I bet your quite a beauty and you're just being modest. ;)
I hear ya sister! I'm classifed as "cute" and "pretty" by my SO.... He has never called me beautiful or gorgeous or hot, I mostly get "you're pretty". I mean either way it's a compliment, but when I hear "cute" I think.... I'm not cute, kittens are cute LOL.
I'm only 5'0, have a round face and many people mistake me for a high schooler (I'm 24!) so I guess there is no escaping it. Cute is okay sometimes.... but yes, it would be nice to be called something else for a change!
My hubby has explained those exact categories to me and called me the same thing "cute pretty."
Personally, I think this is one of those conversations guys should know to keep to themselves.
ladies like christina milian & drew barrymore are cute pretty in my book, compared to someone like tyra banks who is not conventially beautiful but has a fierce strong look.
Yep it comes down to stature. I'm only 4' 11" and look exactly like i did when I was 14, and I'll be turning 25 this year. I stopped getting carded but I think it has more to do with my confidence than my age. I'm dreading being the "cute bride" but it'll probably be that way anyway.
@TinyTina: LOL, right?
@Lassroyale: Oh, pshaw. I don't photograph particularly well, and I have my days where I look in the mirror and think, "Yuuuuuck." I guess I'm about average. =P
@HannahT: Weird that your hubby does it, too! I'd never even thought of stringing those words together until he said it.
@arenyth:ugggghhhhh not cute bride! I'm gonna need one "sexy" make up job. LOL
@TinyTina: Luckily, we're doing a 40s theme so I think my normal look will mostly fit right in...but I agree--NOT THE CUTE BRIDE LABEL! Aaaah!
I think of someone like Kristin Bell as cute- pretty she is adorable and gorgeous! I would take it as a compliment!
@Statutory Grape: The way DH explains it, it is like a triangle-- sexy/pretty/cute... and most women fall somewhere between two points of the triangle. I have no idea where he came up with this. He is a big dork.
@HannahT: I just explained that to FH and he agreed. Ha! Men...it does make sense, though.
@arenyth: I think you're on to something here. It's hard to look statuesque and leggy when...you aren't, lol. And if we're talking runway "hot" that type is pretty much defined by legs, legs, legs.
Cheers to all the short and pretty gals!
My FI just told me that I should wear flats to our wedding. When I protested he said "You would look beautiful in anything. You could wake up with stinky breath, not have showered for a day or two and I would think you are beautiful. You could wear your work uniform to our wedding and I would still think you are beautiful."
I almost teared up.
@SweetRose2011: you have a keeper! (which is good lol)
My husband is definetly more cute than hot, he is totally my type though. I think he looks like greg grundberg (from alias and heroes)
Yay for the short girls! I am usually described as "cute" or even worse "adorable". Adorable like a baby or a puppy??? What is that!?!? I am a smidge over 5 foot, have long hair, and little boobs(I really think this is a cuteness factor, I couldn't have cleavage if I stood on my head). I teach middle school and often am mistaken for a 14 year old. <---Hopefully that makes you feel better about getting mistaken for a high schooler?? Oh yeah I will be 25!
Hmm, I get called everything, lol. It makes me feel a little bit better to know that other women have heard the dreaded 'cute or pretty' from their SO. But as someone up there said, I think most guys like cute more (maybe for stability reasons?) instead of just straight up 'hot'. (If I am not making any sense, please tell me, hehe).
@Statutory Grape: Thanks! I for sure have a keeper. That's why he put a ring on it girl! :)
I am 5' 4" and I STILL am referred to as "cute". It was CUTE during the first three decades of my life. But at 51????
Even though he's likely exxagerating, my FH tells me he thinks I'm "Hot", "Sexy" and "Gorgeous". He is very cute in that he tells me he forgets how pretty I am when he hasn't seen me for a few days. This should make you all laugh, he has referred to his ex as "Ok cute". Now THAT is what I call being on the wrong corner of a triangle!
I guess if the triangle applies, I move around it at different points through the day in my FI opinion! I get "cute" and "pretty" in the morning because I am always smiley and makeup-less when I first wake up. At night when the hair and makeup is done with the heels on, he calls me "hot", "gorgeous", and "dangerously sexy" hahaha! I think its the heels and the eyeliner... I am already 5'8" on a good day so the height thing doesn't fix the "cute" thing for me in the morning.
Anyone get the "angel face" and "that body of yours is just EVIL" (meaning tempting)?

That's how FH always describes me. We were talking about actresses last night and narrowed them down into three categories in the looks department--gorgeous (meaning over-the-top, slightly exaggerated features that aren't necessarily pretty--the type of girls guys generally find "hot"), beautiful (in a classy, conventionally-pretty way) and cute (self-explanatory). So I asked FH, "What category do I fall under?" And he goes, "Cute-pretty."
I guess it's not a BAD thing, but I'm always being described as "cute" by everyone. On a rare occasion, FH will call me beautiful but it doesn't happen terribly often. Mostly he says either "cute" or "pretty." It used to bug me a lot, but now I just brush it off for the most part because him saying that is, well, sort of cute.
Granted, I guess I'm kind of cute...I'm short (5'4) and small-framed, and my face hasn't changed much since I was a child. I have large eyes and a slightly round face with a pointy chin. I have a little cupids-bow mouth. In general, the kind of open, somewhat innocent, childlike face that was popular from the 1940s and before.
But still...when I was younger, I always wanted to be called "hot" or something at least once. I have never, ever been referred to as "sexy" or "gorgeous," not once. I'm trying not to let it bother me, but damnit! I'm 21. I don't want to be "cute." Bawww.
So I'm curious, Hive--how does your FI refer to you in terms of looks? Cute, like me? (Bah.) Hot? Beautiful? Something else? Make me jealous! Let's discuss beauty for a second. :)
Feel free to vent about being called -whatever- here, too. ;)
