I was on Dianne for many years and then switched to Cyestra when my health plan decided to cover only the generic.  I noticed zero difference between the two pills.

I really really liked Diane/Cyestra, but was using them to treat acne.  I assume you’re being treated for acne since normally Doctors would not prescribe Diane to anyone for birth control only.

From what I know, there was very little difference in price from the Diane to the generic Cyestra, so if you’re really worried about it, just opt for the Diane.  I think it was a few bucks more, but not by much (like under $5 difference).

@raisedonrobbery:  OP, just noticed you started this thread a month ago.  Did you decide to stick with the cyestra?

@raisedonrobbery:  ok, I would recommend sticking it out a bit longer.  Since its been so many years (I think I was on Diane/Cyestra for about 10 years), I can’t remember how long it took to clear things up, but I’m guessing it will take a few cycles to reduce your testosterone levels.

Do you mind if I ask if you have cystic or topical acne? I had both – severe, and this pill worked wonders for me.  Literally not a breakout in 10 years, after battling severe acne forever and trying every damn anti-biotic on the market (Minocin, tetracycline, etc.)

I am off the pill now to let my body “rest” before TTC. It was hard to get off the Diane – I loved the security of knowing that there would be no breakouts!

@raisedonrobbery:  I know exactly how you feel with the cystic acne.  I had horrible, painful cysts that would last months, leaving scars, etc.  Thankfully, after going on Diane, that completely stopped for me.  That’s why I took that pill for so long.

To be honest, it’s pretty difficult to come off of Diane.  I learned the hard way that your body can respond with a “rebound effect” if you stop taking Diane.  The rebound effect for me meant horrible oily skin, re-emerging cysts, constant breakouts, hair falling out, etc. It was awful.  I always went right back on the Diane as soon as this stuff started to happen (I probably tried to get off the pill 2 times in the past 10 years just to see if my acne had resolved yet).

I finally started working with a Naturopath who helped me get off the Diane.  I had to take some supplements which really helped.

I am fully off of all of it and my skin is amazing.  No more break-outs, no more cysts. It’s great.   It does take a lot of work though, so if I were you, I’d get through the wedding on Diane and then think about going off afterward.  It was so nice to know for my wedding day that I wouldn’t have any stress breakouts.  I didn’t even think about going off Diane until the wedding was over.

I hope the Diane starts working for you soon! I know it will relieve a lot of stress to know you’ll have nice skin for your wedding! Good luck!
