I knew their would be peopel who wouldn’t come due to the fact it was going to be a dw. However I never thought my own dad wouldn’t come. I talked to him today and and told him we finally decided to do a dw. His response was he didn’t want to go to Jamaica or buy a passport. I told him I would pay for him and buy his passport but he still doesn’t want to go. I don’t know I’m a hurt but I’ll get over it. He is still going to give us money for the wedding it just sucks.

@Vegan: My future father in law said the same thing. He announced to the entire family that he would not be attending our wedding since it was in St Thomas. I cried on multiple occasions over it… and even started looking at local venues. However, my fiance told me to stick with what WE wanted… and responded to his dad “That’s fine. I understand. Her family is all coming so that’s plenty for us”. When the save the dates were finally sent out with the location in writing, he actually backed down! Now, he is making a big deal of telling everyone he will only be going from Friday night to Sunday morning (the wedding is on Saturday). I could care less when he comes – the point is that he will actually be there!
Hopefully your father is just doing this as a tactic to get you to change your mind and will give in when he realizes that you are doing what YOU want for YOUR wedding.
PS… It didn’t hurt that my future Mother-In-Law & fiance’s aunts all gave my future Father-In-Law MAJOR guilt trips over not attending his only son’s wedding. Get the rest of your family on your side, don’t back down, and I’m sure he will cave to be there for his daughter
