ajillity81:  Dallas has so many great restaurants!

For steak, Pappas Bros. Steakhouse is awesome! Huge wine selection. Phenomenal sides.

Fun craft cocktails: Barter, Standard Pour, and Bolsa

Brunch: Hatties, The Meddlesome Moth, Whiskey Cake

Italian: Lucia is great! But VERY difficult to get in. You have to make reservations way in advance.

New American: Fearings, FT33, Abacus, Oak, Stampede 66

Oh and if you are a drinker (or not KU by then ;)) You MUST have Mambo Taxis (or Mambo Limosines) at Mi Cocina. Dallas is KNOWN for the mambos!

Check out D Magazine for recommendations.

ajillity81:  We live in a suburb North of Dallas. Some of our go-to local places are Kotta Sushi, Hutchins BBQ, Mi Cocina (Shops at Legacy location), Twisted Root, Platia (Greek).

ajillity81:  I live in Dallas. Here are some of our favorites

HG Sply Co – Really fresh food, great cocktails, awesome rooftop bar

The Porch – American

Taverna – fabulous Italian food, especially the risotto

Oddfellows – great for brunch or dinner, American food with a twist

Union Bear – awesome pizza and drinks

Breadwinners – amazing brunch

La Duni – one of our go-to spots. Pan-latin cuisine with TO DIE FOR desserts – especially their cake. We are actually going there today to do a cake tasting for our wedding cake

Chuy’s – casual Tex-Mex

Mi Cocina – slightly more upscale Tex-Mex

Meso Maya – more upscale Mexican. My favorite Mexican place in Dallas.

Sonny Bryan’s- BBQ

Peggy Sue BBQ – BBQ

Victor Tangos – fun twist on American tapas

Twisted Root – Awesome burgers

Seriously Dallas has so many good restauarants. If there’s a specific type of food you are looking for, let me know and I’m sure I can come up with some recommendations!

They are kind of far apart unless you are planning on staying over night in both. But in Austin, Huts Hamburgers is delicious lunch time meal. The Oasis isn’t just super impressive food but it is neat to sit out on the patio looking across the lake. Amy’s ice cream is awesome dessert. Rudy’s bbq is a Texas chain but omg amazing. Salt lick is also great bbq.  Both Dallas and Austin have fairly endless food options. I am of a less refined taste so I don’t know much of the fancy downtown places but this is an awesome link to the best bbq in the country.

Agreed with all the places kimmo416 listed as well. Haven’t been to Meso Maya yet. Heard good things. Mmm and La Duni’s Venezulan Triple Chocolate Truffle cake is HEAVEN!

I’ll add a few for you to check out (Dallas).

Hibiscus- chophouse, steaks and seafood

Truluck’s- chophouse, steaks and seafood

Tillman’s Roadhouse- modern twist on Texas favorites.  Chicken fried steak is to die for and definitely get the tableside s’mores

Javier’s- Mexico City mexican (not tex-mex!)

True Food Kitchen- new American

Some of our casual restaurant faves are:  Twisted Root (crazy good burgers), Hopdoddy’s (crazy good burgers), Hoffman Hotts (hotdogs in a 50’s style diner), Sonny Bryan’s (mmm bbq), Oddfellows (crazy good brunch).  Our favorite sushi place is Deep Sushi (I dream about the Longhorn roll).

Also, as a PP mentioned, the view from the Oasis (Austin) is pretty awesome.

OH!  And since it’s Thanksgiving, do yourself a favor and get some pumpkin pie (and chocolate pie and apple pie) at Emporium Pies.  You may have to wait a while, but you will not regret it.  Even better, order a whole pie ahead of time and pick it up.
