Argh! I have to vent.
I went for a second interview this morning for a job that sounds like it could really be something great… it’s a little different to what I’m doing now, would be a challenge (which I love) and has some great potential. The interview this morning went great! Until we got to my references. They want three supervisors in my last three positions, let’s take a look at what they want vs. what I have:
Current job – um, she has no idea I’m looking so how can she be a reference?!
I gave reference info for a girl who used to work in this department directly with me. They said they would prefer a supervisor but *might* be able to work with it.
Previous job – I called there yesterday to ask my old boss for permission to use her as a reference and she’s moved on. So I asked for her boss, also moved on. So I asked for a stand in boss who wasn’t ever my supervisor/manager but who was also in HR. Also moved on!!! (as a side note, I’m super curious and nosy why they’ve all left!)
They want me to go on LinkedIn or Facebook and track them down. I’m deleted my LinkedIn and I’m not about to harass them on a personal social networking site! Plus, none of them were on there when I left so I doubt they are now. I said I can give the VP’s assistant as a reference (if the VP is too busy, which he will be) and a few coworkers but they said they need a direct supervisor.
Job before that – (2008), Again, the supervisor has moved on and so has the other HR manager there.
Again they said LinkedIn or Facebook. I know both women and there’s no way they would be on either website. I gave two references, one was another manager who I worked closely with and the other one was a coworker, but again it’s not good enough.
I feel crushed, Bees. I really don’t want references to get in the way of this job 🙁 This is why I hate relying on other people!
