Dance floor too small for my guest list...

Crap.   FI and I went to visit our reception venue this weekend (since it's out-of-state for us, we've only seen it once before).  When we booked the venue last summer we were planning on 120 guests...now our guest list is 200.  the room technically holds that many but its an old, old building and the dance floor is SMALL.  And oblong shaped!  Oh no....  I'm so disappointed.  Do you think it's size and shape will deter people from dancing?  We have some wild friends and family and were expecting a big, dance party feel.  Do I have any options?  Have you been to a wedding with a too-small dance floor?  Undecided  (obvi. the room is not set-up in these photos)

Oh! This sucks. :/ I don't think it will deter people from dancing, though, unless your A/C is broken and literally EVERYONE is dancing such that it's jam-packed. I don't think there's ever a wedding where literally EVERYONE dances, anyway! And plus you've got to figure that not every last person will stick around for dancing. Just make sure you've got really awesome music that will make people want to dance and you should be fine. If I'm in the mood to dance and have had a bit to drink, not even a jam-packed dance floor will stop me. And hey, look at it this way--if it's so jam-packed that there's not space for everybody, then you've achieved your goal and got a lot of people to dance, right?!

@Veganglam- HA, thanks for the perspective.  I guess a packed small dance floor makes the party look more rockin' than a huge dance floor.  lol....

No changes can be made now...so I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.  The shape is really bothering me though, I wish I had considered this before hand.

I agree with VG that it is highly unlikely that all 200 people are going to get on the dance floor at once.  Also, maybe it is good that it is a little smaller, that way it will not look empty while people are out there.  I personally like to wait until there are a good number of people on the dance floor so my 7th grade dance moves can blend in.  A smaller dance floor will look fuller faster. :)

Don't worry about the size of the dance floor. If people want to dance they will find a way no matter how small the dance floor is. Which by the way does not look that small to me at all. I have seen way smaller. Everything will work out fine. That is just a minor detail. Don't get nervous about it. Smile

You'd be suprised how much people will get together to dance. my fiance and I are DJ's and we've done a party that had a smaller dance floor then that. We couldn't believe they expected people to dance, but oddly enough it worked out fine. Of course I think I should also mention that these people did wind up on the influence of the wacky backy before the night was over. Very unconventianal wedding reception to say the least

I'll agree with the others. I was always told that you should have a smaller dance floor, because it will look full fast and encourage people to dance. I'm concerned that mine is too big!

I think if the music is good and they're comfortable, people will just dance wherever they wanted to dance. People mingle and get together and form spontaneous groups... at my mom's wedding, I remember dancing with my family and new stepdad to an Usher song by the buffet table. :)

What an incredibly beautiful hall, btw! :)

I know you posted this a while ago - but I'm dealing with the same thing. Our dance floor is 10x15.... for about 210 people!!!!! It's RIDICULOUSLY small. It's portable but I'm debating on whether or not to rent a bigger one. A big dance floor will cost about $600 and I'm thinking it's a little silly to pay for a dance floor when we will have one, it will just be small.
