Please post your experiences, types of dance, how long you took lessons for etc for your wedding first dance.  Also did you learn other dances as well or did you just take one on one dance lessons for your particular first dance song?

Ooh I am interested in hearing this too.  Also can you post how much you spent?  In our area private lessons are pretty expensive (and we would need private lessons cause we suck at dancing) - when we calculated it out it came out to something like $75.00 per minute of the song, so we decided against it.  Instead we are coming up with our own goofy choreograph :-)

There is a ballroom dance club where we live and its $8 per person for an hour lesson.  They aren't private, but I think its good enough.  They offer them every Sat night and do a different dance each week.  We're planning to do the foxtrot so we're going to go each time they have lessons on that and hopefully after a few tries we should be good to go!

We're getting lessons.  We got a deal through GroupOn and got 55% off 4 lessons.  After those lessons we're going to decide if we need more help or not.  I'm guessing we'll need more help.

We got private dance lessons and I think you'll get as much out of it as you put into it. We started about 5 weeks before the wedding (I would recommend starting sooner), and I think we bought 5 lessons. You really need to practice together at home, in the garage, whatever, or you'll find yourself spending your lesson going over what you were taught the last time. Sounds obvious, but we didn't practice very often. I already knew we were in serious need of lessons, but decided hubby is the type who needs a private instructor talking to him. If we had gone with group lessons, he would have had less motivation to learn how to dance. We learned the foxtrot for one particular song, and we even changed our song halfway through the lessons, but the foxtrot still worked. Final performance, I was the one who messed up, and we recovered using one of the basic steps for the rest of the routine! ahhh...
The lessons were expensive, but I am glad we did it since it gave me a clear plan for the reception, even though I flubbed, but that's my fault! If you are lucky with the right timing on a Groupon coupon, that is a very smart way to go!
