I'm learning my Sangeet dance...It's "Mujhe Sajaan Ke Ghar Jaana Hai" from Lajja

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAMDHdPoP-A

The music is really fun, and I like the lyrics.  But I'm cutting out the sad and slow section in the middle:

Any other Indian brides having a Sangeet.  What are you dancing to?  I don't think I've danced since I was like 11 or 12.  My mom will probably wonder how all those years of bharatnatyam were a waste.  But I'm practicing like crazy so I don't look like an idiot!

You're right that music would be fun for your Sangeet Dance :) After watching the video and hearing the music, it actully reminded me of a wedding I attended for a college roomate/friend back in 2008 and someone actually did that song, it was beautiful the way she danced it.

But I agree with you about cutting out the middle of the song because its a little slow. But other than that, go for it! Have fun practicing, you'll do great! Dancing at your Sangeet? : wedding Icon Biggrin

I didn't have a Sangeet .. since my family had been non-existent for my side of the wedding planning .. but I did dance!

I danced to "mere dholna" from Bhool Bhulaniya at my wedding as a solo. I was actually planning to dance to it with my dance class ( I learn Kathak) since we did this song a year ago. Many of the people hadn't seen my performances so it was a good way for them to see it and it was a very sweet song as well. Well, at the reception one girl didn't show up and the other had her period right before she came so she didn't want to dance. I was a bit bummed but then decided to do it all solo and it was great! Everyone loved it.

    Goodluck on your dance. :)

We had a sangeet, but we did not perform.  Instead, several of my cousins did dances, some of my cousin's children played musical instruments, a few people sang and a few friends gave informal toasts/remarks. It was a lovely event, and I'm so grateful to my brother, sister-in-law and sister for putting it together for us.  We had a Moroccan-themed tent in turquoise and rani pink as the backdrop. It was gorgeous!

Good luck with your dance!  You picked a great song.
