I would go to the emergency rm some people do experience spotting in early pregnancy but I would go and get checked out because that sounds like more than spotting.
How bad is your cramping? I experienced the same thing with my MC. I didn't miscarry naturally, but definitely had some dark brown spotting. As long as it's not red or pinkish, it's not necessarily bad. I would wait to hear back from your Dr's office before doing anything.
Sending good thoughts your way!
I would honestly go to the ER if I were you. I m/c'ed naturally earlier this month and it started out as barely noticeable brown spotting with no cramping and graduated to bright red bleeding and a complete miscarriage a week later.
Usually brown spotting is normal in early pregnancy, but because you have cramps I'd say it can't hurt to be extra careful and get checked out. I'll be thinking of you!
I'd call your doctor and see if you can get in today. Sending good thoughts!
I called my doctor and after bursting into tears (so embarrassing) they're squeezing me in today at 4:30. I am hoping and praying everything is alright. Thank you for your support.
@Littlebean912: I'll be thinking of you. Good Luck
Dark brown spotting and some cramping is pretty normal for early pregnancy. Dark brown means it's old blood, so that's something to alleviate your mind.
At times it may have nothing to do with your baby. Sometimes some cysts that are harmless can be found and they might have burst, hence the blood.
Please keep us posted, At 7 wks and 4 days, you should be able to hear a heartbeat and I'm hoping that it will cheer you up!
Just checking in.... I went to the doctor and he did an exam. He said it is brown (old) blood which is a good sign and my cervix was still closed (another good sign). I'm going in today for bloodwork to check my HCG levels and he sent me for a last minute ultrasound last night to check up on things. So I frantically called my husband and we met up at the radiology place. The tech was really nice and of course couldn't tell me any specifics but we got to see the baby and the heartbeat which really made me feel so much better that it is in there, it is growing and it's heartbeat is strong. The tech said there are a million different reasons there could be spotting/ bleeding in the first trimester so it's not always a bad sign. I'm hoping that my hormone levels come out ok and I can put my mind at ease. I feel better today with no cramping or spotting so thank God.
Also a funny surprise... the doctor had thought that based on my last period I am 7 weeks but the ultrasound and the size of the baby showed that I am 8 weeks 5 days! So the little one is a whole week older then I thought!
@Littlebean912: I'm so happy everthing is OK with you!
At this point at 8 weeks and 5 days, the ultrasound means more than the HCG level. The levels plateau at about 5-6 weeks and won't really indicate much at 8 wks.
At my clinic, about 85% of the calls I get are about spotting during early pregnancy. That's why I just tried to give you different scenarios as to why you were spotting.
Sooo glad that you're little bean looked okay!!! That was awesome your doc sent you for an U/S. Fingers crossed for your blood work (but I too have heard that U/S is more important).
Yay! Great news! ...and super exciting that you got an early peak at your little one.
Another update!
I just got a call from my doctor and he said the ultrasound looks perfect. The heartbeat is strong (167) and the baby's growth looks really good so I'm so relieved. He said I didn't have to come in for bloodwork but I think I might go anyway just to cover all bases.
Thank you thank you thank you everyone for your thoughts and support!
This happened to me! Almost exactly. I had tons of lower back pain, consistent brown spotting and then one day bright red. I'm now 24 weeks with a healthy baby girl. Any bleeding during pregnancy is super scary but it is common early on. Lessing bleeding pick up around the time you'd normally get AF or maybe heavier after intercourse? All reasons why. So glad to read you saw your OB keep us posted.
@Littlebean912: Great news!!! What an awesome heartbeat!!! I'm so happy to hear that!
So happy to hear it worked out for you! And yay for LO being a week older than you thought- you're now a week closer to having them in your arms :)
@Littlebean912: Glad to hear everything is ok! I'd also go in for the blood work just to make sure everything is A-OK!
@KeeKalena: I would be one of those calls. I called my doctor's office yesterday for spotting. I had some bright spotting (3 chocolate chip size ones) in the afternoon and then some pink ones (same formation even) at 7:30p.m. I've had random spots since 7 weeks. It's looking more and more like I have a friable cervix where I look at it the wrong way and it spots. My doctor's nurse as long as I'm not intensely cramping or soaking a pad, I'm fine and the baby's fine. Seeing the heartbeat 7 and 8 weeks is also reassuring. So, yep I'm one of those calls.
@cascadecherub: Yeah your nurse is right. It's worrisome when you're bleeding like a period and intensely cramping.
Don't get me wrong, if you guys aren't sure or are worried, definitely call in and at least get reassured. =)

I am 7 weeks 4 days pregnant and I have been having really dark brown spotting on and off again for about two weeks. It will start one day and be a little and then stop for a few days. Yesterday, quite suddenly I had a large amount all at once to the point I needed to change and it has continued but not as heavy into today. I'm having some cramping but nothing I would say is too painful or out of the ordinary. I've been googling and scaring myself. I put in a call to the nurse at my OB practice but haven't heard back yet.
Any insight? Please help!
