Although it seems rather embarrassing, do any of you share the same problem of having dark patches on your armpits even after shaving?  I've tried waxing but it is rather painful and leaves me with a rash.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was going to suggest waxing, but it appears that didn't work. The only other thing I can think of is laser hair removal - but that can be way expensive. Sorry!

I get them too, mine look gray :( Dove has a new deodorant out to help reduce the appearance of hair, so I'm hoping it will help.  I've been using it for 2 weeks? But I'm not sure if it's made a difference. It's pink if you see it at the grocery store.

i was also going to suggest laser hair removal. good news is from what i heard laser hair removal actually works best on dark hair. not sure if you want to go that route though...

Same here-no idea how to fix it!  I can shave the closest shave of my life and STILL!

I have the same issue.  I made the mistake of trying to wax my own underarms one day and had disastrous results... a lot like what you described.  Then I came to my senses and gave a waxing salon a shot.  I've been a happy client ever since.  In between sessions, I use the deodorant that Ms. D'Orsay suggested: Dove's Ultimate Visibly Smooth.  I'd like to think that it works (at least it smells nice!).  Best part is that the dark patches are gone!

I'm definitely going to try that deodorant.  I love Dove.  I've used it before since it's great for people with sensitive skin.  I'll let you know how it works!

Ive been using the Dove Visibly Smooth for about a month now & absolutely love it - seriously moisturizes and works - softens hairs little by little - ive notice I shave a little less often & certain have less stubble appearance in between.

Try getting a coupon online - there should be a few floating around since it's a new product. Good luck!

Laser! Costs a fair bit but you will never regret it ...

I second Miss Yorkie... if your only waxing experience is DIY, try a waxing salon. I'm a waxing convert... I used to tweeze several areas and shave several areas, and now I wax everything that needs hair removal, except my legs which I still shave. Waxing hurts, but never as bad as I fear, and the results last for so long! I go to a great place in NY which does a fabulous job with my eyebrows.

You could get powder, like talcum or baby powder. Just fluff some of that under your arms with a poof or a fluffy brush. You can even get lightly scented ones which will give you a subtle fragrance. The white of it could help to cover up your shadowing!

I kind of have the same issue. mine are more bumpy than anything. Like it always looks like I have an afternoon shadow like men get when they shave their face! I hate it! I want smooth pits! lol. I have so far found nothing that fixes it

Waxing or laser hair removal is best. It's dark in your armpits since the dark hair is under your skin.

I have the same problem and have been trying waxing. It works pretty well, except that it's terrible to have to "grow it out" in between waxes! The key is to not cave in and shave or else you'll start the cycle over. I plan to continue this up to my wedding day, and then it's back to shaving for me!

I'm going to give waxing a try, although I must admit I'm more terrified about having my underarms waxed than anything else...and I've had plenty of other things waxed and never been afraid--but for some reason I'm terrified about my arm pits. Weird.

the "dark skin" is really just the roots of the dark hair inside the follicles, so waking or nair might help a little bit, but won't take it all away...

I had the laser hair removal done and its amazing! I never have to shave again, no more dark underarm hair or skin.. it's expensive, but totally worth it!!

I've been using that Dove hair-reducing deoderant. How does everyone else like it? I'm relatively...well, haven't noticed a pleasant decrease yet. Boo. Maybe i need one more month on it.

Sometimes dry skin can make your skin look darker and ashier than normal. Try moisturizing or at least using a moisturizing deoderant

Waxing then tanning helped me with the dark patch.  It hurt at first, but once you do it a few times its a piece of cake.  Just try to stick it out a little longer.

Laser hurts and is expensive but if I had the money I'd do it.

NOW Regarding Dove stubble free deo....

This Deo is HORRIBLE. And I love Dove :-/ I was excited when I saw the commercial for longer stubble free days, because my hair grows fast. I've been using it for about a week and a half. And it has made my underarms WORSE. I have bumps all over both underarms where the hair follicles are. Its like I have ingrown hairs or something. Like the Deo slowed down the process of letting the hairs poke out of the skin and now the hair is building up underneath. Can we say OUCH!!! YUCK!!! and *Cries* :-( Im sure this Deo works different for everyone, but for me who has dark thick and a lot of hair (hey...Im latin) it is a NIGHTMARE

I have had really great luck with the deo.  It has really decreased the coarseness of my underarm hair and the dark spot left after I shave.  Maybe you have an allergic reaction to it?  I can't use Secret for that same reason it does the same thing you are describing happened to you with the Dove.

I had the same problem since I was 13. The only thing that's ever worked for me is Godiva Licorice Whitening Deodorant. Ebay has many good sellers that sell this product. That's usually where I get it. I've tried creams and such but this one works the best.  IT REALLY WORKS!! I swear by this product. It's not instant by any means. Give it a month. You'll see a lot of difference.

Waxing helps but honestly it doesn't work. It's not the darkness of the hair follicles. It's the skin.

maybe this is out of fashion, but does anyone use Nair on their underarms? I tried it a few times when I was younger and though it smells, it does work.

I would say laser is your best option.  It is not expensive as you think.  Maybe about 35-50 per session depending if the salon is running a sale.  You only need 6 sessions.  I think that is the best way to get rid of the underarm hair shadow.

Nair does not work!!  The hair is too thick!

I am going for my last laser removal tomorrow and my wedding is in 29 days.  So far I am very happy and the darkness has decreased significantly.  Keep in mind you need 6-8 weeks between each session.  I started back in August.  I live in MD and it cost me a little under $700 for the six treatments.  I tried the dove deoderant and I have sensitive skin (the sensitive skin ones work well for me) and I broke out in a bad rash so test this out far in advance from your wedding date.

The same thing happens to me! (Though I think part of it is that my armpits must be weird, because I can angle the razor whatever way I want and STILL not get at a certain patch of stubble. Blech.)

@Melissabegins, I've tried to use Nair before but my skin is so sensitive that it went crazy at the chemicals in Nair. At first, I thought, "Wow, finally smooth skin!" But the next day, my skin was red, blotchy and in major pain.

I have tried an epilator on my legs.  I think it hurts more than waxing.  It's like slow plucking of each hair off my leg.

I exfoliate my pits and also use a men's fusion razor on them. I have super dark hair there and you can't really see it anymore.
