    I have a problem.

I shop...but I don't go to stores, I go to amazon.com.  Because they have great deals...and I rationalize it to myself that if I bought it in the store it would be X amount more expensive...help me out hive! smack some sense into me! I think i'm suffering from post wedding/house buying shopping...

See, for the past several years, I've saved and penny pinched for countless big purchases...buying a house, paying for our wedding...and I've lived by a strict budget since I think my mid-20's...but now that all of that is over, I don't necessarily live by a "budget"...I mean we have a set household budget that both me and hubby contribute to for household and savings...but we also have individual accounts that we can basically 'do' anything we want to with...and I find myself literally doing what I want to...

200 bag/pair of shoes that I would have balked at a couple of years ago? no problem!

    impromptu shopping spree? of course!

and Amazon.com is the worst culprit...I feel like I should be saving this money (it is a recession!) and I started direct depositing some away in my savings account...but I still spend...HELP!!!

Did you find your shopping/spending habits change after you got married? or is it just me?

I'm not married yet, but my fiancee and I have been living together for three years and we've tried a number of approaches to budgeting. The most effective we've found so far is setting a monthly amount for us to spend on everything except for bills, pulling that amount out in cash, and not using credit cards at all. I've noticed that if I slip and use my credit card just once (i.e. maybe I'm out of cash), I find myself heading down a slippery slope of overspending.

We've decided that $1200/month, or $300/week, should be enough to cover food, gas, fun, and anything else that's not a bill. If I need to pay for something using a credit card (like an online purchase) I'll deposit that amount into my checking account first.

We've been trying this out for four months now and it's really working.

    Good luck!
